If you are a senior Apple fan, you should know that the previous generation of Apple TV has been released for more than three years. Apple finally released the new fourth generation of Apple TV this year. At the launch, we have seen the powerful functions of the new Apple TV. What a delightful product it is. Today, let's take a look at what exciting technology Apple TV has brought to the fourth generation of products after three years of silence. Ok, it's time to disassemble Apple TV 4, please move your eyes to the following! (Source: iFixit translation: 91 disassembly)
Let's take a look at the Apple TV 4 TV box:
Dual core 64 bit Apple A8 SoC
Network interface, supporting 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi Fi, infrared receiver and HDMI 1.4 interface
The remote control includes:
Glass touch surface
Dual microphone
Acceleration sensor and gyroscope
Bluetooth 4.0, infrared transmitter, Lightning interface
Compared with Apple TV 3 (on the right), TV4 is much thicker, without fiber optic digital audio output, and USB interface has changed from micro USB interface to Type-C interface.
Start with the Apple TV box. Use a pick to pry slowly along the gap edge of the upper cover of the box.
The top cover of the Apple TV box opens.
Use a screwdriver to remove the 5 Apple Torx screws that secure the metal heat dissipation baffle.
Take out the metal cooling baffle.
Then take out the main board of the Apple TV box.
Let's see which chips are on the front of the motherboard:
Red: Apple A8 SoC APL1011 and SK Hynix H9CKNNNBKTBRWR-NTH 2 GB LPDDR3 SDRAM
Orange: universal 339S00045 Wi Fi module
Yellow: SMSC LAN9730
Green: Apple 338S00057
Light blue: DP2700A1
Dark blue: Texas Instruments PA61
Purple: Fairchild DF25AU 010D 030D
On the back of the motherboard:
Red: SK Hynix H2JTEG8VD1BMR 32 GB NAND flash memory
Orange: NXP 1112 0206 5271B4K
Yellow: V301˚F57K C6XF G4
After removing the motherboard, there is a huge heat sink below.
The back of the heat sink is a small power board. The rated power of the redesigned power supply is 12V 0.917A, while the rated power of the third generation of Apple TV is 3.4V 1.75A, more than doubling the power.
After removing the AC power lead, the power board is left. However, no flat cable connecting the motherboard and the power board was found. We guess that the power supply for the motherboard may be through the screw hole of the heat sink.
This is the new Siri remote control, which has two microphones, a glass touch pad and Lightning interface. The new remote control is much more complicated than the old one.
Apple also installed acceleration sensors and gyroscopes in the remote control, which can be used to play somatosensory games.
Siri remote control adopts Bluetooth transmission, and its application range is much wider than that of infrared remote control.
There is a small groove at the lower end of the remote control for easy disassembly. Pry the shell slowly along the gap with a pick.
Although there is a lot of glue, this remote control is easy to disassemble.
Here, we have a feeling of disassembling the iPhone 5S. There is a flat cable under the touch pad.
Let's slowly remove the flat cable.
The front and rear panels are separated.
Now let's take a look at the chips on the motherboard of the remote control.
Red: STM32L 151QD ultra-low power consumption ARMCortex-M3 MCU
Orange: Broadcom BCM5976C1KUB6G touch screen controller (iPhone 5S/5C and iPad Air are the same model)
Yellow: CSR (Qualcomm) CSR 1010 Bluetooth chip
Green: TI TMS320C55 ultra-low power digital signal processor
Light blue: STC AS5C Y523
Dark blue: Ying Meisheng ITG-3600 three-axis gyroscope
Purple: TI 49C37GI and TI55CHL6I
This is the flat cable connecting the battery and Lightning connector.
The battery is stuck by glue, and slowly pry it off with a paddle.
The flat cable, battery and Lightning interface are welded together.
The design of welding the battery and the flat cable together is not easy to replace.
Of course, this 410mAh battery is rechargeable, so you don't have to worry about the remote control's inability to buy batteries anymore.
Well, that's the end of today's disassembly. iFixit gave Apple TV 4 a maintenance score of 8 points (10 points is the easiest to repair), which is a very high score. Unlike other Apple products, it is difficult to disassemble. Apple TV 4 adopts a modular design and consists of only a few parts, which is very easy to repair and replace.
