Newifi New Route 2 is an intelligent router jointly launched by Tintin Technology and JD Smart, which is currently undergoing a public test. Today, Newifi New Route 2 also came to our evaluation room. The machine adopts MT7621A dual core CPU+256M DDR3 memory+32M Flash, provides gigabit wired interface and 1200Mbps wireless transmission rate, and adds USB3.0 support in two USB, which is very luxurious. Packaging and accessories

The engineering machine is packed in a hard kraft paper box with simple product parameters on the back.

Accessories include power adapter and instructions.

The adapter has a special shape. There is a logo of "JD+" on the corner and the connector.

In order to supply power to the dual USB ports, the output of the adapter is up to 12V/2A, and the size is also one circle larger than the general adapter.

Appearance and workmanship

Similar to the wedge design of touch pad, there is only one logo and instruction sticker on the front. The whole body has been sanded, and the plastic material and touch are good.

The dual antenna with plate design has a simple light print pattern.

The back of the fuselage is a large area of heat dissipation grille, the head and tail are silicone feet, and the front end is a square LED status light.

The maximum angle of the antenna is about 80 degrees, and the rotational damping is large.

There is also a dense "cross" cooling grid under the plate antenna, and the red WPS button is on the far left, which can be reset by long pressing.

The body interfaces are concentrated at the rear, and from left to right are power supply, WAN ports with a speed of up to 1Gbps, dual LAN ports USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 interfaces.

The TF card slot is on the right side of the fuselage, and Toshiba's 10 speed card is attached to the fuselage. The official said that it uses MLC particles, and its durability will be much better than that of conventional memory cards.

System usage

New Route 2 runs the "Xiaoyun Routing OS System (Xcloud)" customized based on Openwrt. This system is in the charge of Ting Technology, which obtained strategic investment from Xunlei, Lenovo and JD, and Ting Technology was the technology enterprise responsible for Ruyi Cloud at that time.

New Route 2 is a product of deep cooperation between Digin Technology, JD Smart and Sohu Video. Users use JD account when logging in to the system. After logging in, they can see the information of lifelong free VIP members of Sohu Video at the bottom of the main interface.

Lifetime free VIP members of Sohu Video are somewhat similar to the mode of Youku Money Treasure. When using an intelligent router, users can use the user's free bandwidth as the "relay server" of Sohu Video, and "reward" is of course the member privilege of Sohu Video. Users can choose the priority sharing, balance mode or choose to turn off this function according to the situation.

The Xiaoyun Routing OS system is one of the few intelligent routing systems that, after being simplified and improved, still reserves the advanced mode of full blood for geek users. In the simple mode, the basic network information is displayed on the left, the configuration entrance is on the right, and the top icon is a third-party function plug-in.

Common routing functions, such as MAC filtering (disguised blacklist function), MAC cloning, bandwidth management, wireless relay, etc., have been put in a prominent position. The USB management and file viewing functions are placed for the expansion of its dual USB, which can control the access of USB devices like a computer and read files directly.

In terms of third-party plug-ins, the resource richness of new route 2 is better than that of new manufacturers such as Xiaomi Route. Commonly used Xunlei Remote, Baidu online disk, peanut shell, and dynamic domain name tools are available. In addition, there are extreme user management, time machine backup, Dropbox synchronization, and other relatively small but professional plug-ins.

Although the simplified page of the engineering machine looks very simple, there are still some details that are not perfect. For example, the click function will not automatically open a new page, and you need to go back step by step to return to the home page. Moreover, the plug-in area is folded by default. Once more plug-ins are installed, it will be difficult to use. I hope that it will be modified in the mass production version system.

The advanced mode provides a lot of traditional routing information and set entries, such as detailed logs, process and real-time information records, startup items, mount points, and network diagnostics, to meet the needs of geek users. The relevant information is so detailed that people are outrageous. In addition, the system needs less in the advanced mode, and the response speed is extremely high. The user experience is quite good.

The official also provides a window client called Routing Assistant, which is relatively simple in function. It is mainly used for simple configuration, upgrading the routing system, performing relevant backup and recovery, and managing the built-in stored files.

Mobile app

It uses a mobile client different from the newifi mini, and its overall function is relatively simple, but its structure and common intelligent routing are also different. The notice bar on the home page, similar to Android, will display system information in chronological order, with video recommendations on the top, simple blacklist management, and restart functions.

Its video tab is displayed as the Sohu video client. In addition to watching the video content of Sohu video without advertisements, it can log in to the Sohu video account, filter, search and subscribe videos, and download them to the router. The file management page can read the cached and downloaded video files, and support local uploading of pictures from the phone to the route for storage.

USB storage speed

The new route 2 uses a 1Gbps wired network interface, supports a wireless transmission rate of 1200Mbps, and is equipped with dual USB interfaces. One of them is a USB 3.0 interface, which exceeds many NAS (private cloud) devices in specifications. Its internal transmission rate is also very desirable.

According to the actual measurement, the USB3.0 interface of the machine supports the hot plug of U disk and mobile hard disk, and the official claims to support the expansion of hard disk with a capacity of up to 12T.

After connecting to the same LAN as the new route 2, you can see the device named XCLOUD in my network. The 8G TF card storage provided by the route itself and the USB storage device inserted by the user will be displayed in the form of shared files. PC users can copy, paste, delete and other operations like local files.

Of course, you can also directly enter the address in the browser address bar for file access, but the style and copy operations are not so convenient. In actual use, no matter what access mode, the response speed of file reading is no different from that of local access, and the experience is quite smooth.

Because the official USB3.0 function has not been opened, the current version of firmware still runs at the speed of USB2.0. In the test, we used super class 5 lines to connect the gigabit network port and route of the PC, and carried out a read and write test on the hard disk on the USB3.0 interface. The result was also quite close to the standard speed of USB2.0.

Some enthusiastic netizens on the forum cracked USB3.0 imperfectly and ran at a speed of 30m/s for writing and 75m/s for reading, which was quite eye-catching. We also hope that the official can open USB3.0 support as soon as possible.

We select 1s of adjacent polar routes as comparison, and the test locations are 5m, 10m and 15m (separated by a load-bearing wall). The signals with the SSID of igao7_newifi are sent by the new route 2, while the gaojila is sent by the pole route 1s, and those with the suffix of 5G are their 5G signals.

From the comparison of signal strength, it can be seen that the strength difference of 2.4G signal is obvious, and the new route 2 is much stronger than the pole route 1s. In terms of 5G wifi strength, pole route 1s is relatively strong.

In terms of signal stability, since the new millet route passing by here is closer, the signal can almost maintain its strength all the time, but the intensity fluctuation is far more obvious than that of the new route 2. New route 2 and pole route 1s can maintain their maximum strength at 5m; At 10m and 15m, both new route 2 and pole route 1s have obvious signal strength decline (the figure is obvious ladder shape), and the 5G signal decline amplitude of middle and high frequency is more obvious (the ladder is more distinct).

For connection speed, the 2.4G signal with higher utilization rate is used as the benchmark. The connection speed at 5m, 10m and 15m is shown in the figure above. The load-bearing wall at 15m has excellent signal isolation capability, and the network speed of the new route 2 has been affected to some extent, but the connection speed at 5m and 10m is maintained well, and it shows stronger adaptability than the polar route in the 2.4G band.

The new route 2 is positioned at the middle and high end, and its price is 299 yuan, which matches its material use and configuration level.

In the actual experience, the lifetime free VIP member of Sohu Video built into the machine system is an important bonus for heavy users of Sohu Video, and it also provides clients on multiple platforms, such as web pages, PCs and mobile apps, with good coverage. However, its function is still in the stage of completion, and its stability needs to be improved.

The hardware configuration of the machine is high, the daily CPU load is low, and the response is fast. Even though USB3.0 is not yet open, the 20m/s read/write speed has made great progress over the previous generation of products. With the support of dual USB ports, it can be used as a good NAS (private cloud). In general, this configuration is very competitive at less than 300 yuan.
