Relax Galaxy S6 edge Upgrade Android 5.1.1 Experience

Samsung has successively pushed the latest Android 5.1.1 system for Galaxy S6 edge in different regions. What will happen to Samsung's new system when the native system does not bring us too many surprises? We used the S6 edge of the Hong Kong version to have an experience.

We use the Galaxy S6 edge (SM-G9250) of the Hong Kong Bank, which is flashed into the Android 5.1.1 firmware of the Bank of China (version number is G9250ZCU1BOG7, and the hardware of the Bank of China and the Bank of Hong Kong is the same, so it can be flashed).

After being flashed into the system, it is still our familiar launcher and transparent weather plug-in. Unlike the Galaxy A8, the new system of the Galaxy S6 edge still retains the secondary menu. The only difference is that in the lower left corner of the weather plug-in, the wind speed prompt is added.

After entering the secondary menu, the long lost function finally came back, that is, the applications in the secondary menu are arranged in the order of subtitles. The lack of this function has made the Galaxy S6/S6 edge (Hong Kong, China and other versions, and the U.S. version also has this function in Android 5.0.2) get a lot of complaints before.

Enter the editing interface of the drop-down bar, and you can set the display status of S search and quick connection at the bottom.

Close it to make the drop-down list more concise. In the past, this function could only be realized by some third-party ROMs.

Enter the interface of editing wallpaper, you can see the switch of wallpaper movement effect, and turn it off to save power.

Viewing the system information through AIDA64, we can see that the Android version is 5.1.1 and the kernel version has been upgraded to 3.10.61.

In addition, the built-in calculator of the system has also been slightly changed, adding a shortcut button to rotate the screen.

Click to enter the horizontal screen mode, that is, the scientific calculator mode.

The Android 5.1.1 camera of the Galaxy S6 edge has many improvements. First, it finally supports sensitive spot metering, which is a very "touching" improvement compared with Samsung in the past. Quick exposure adjustment is also supported on the right side of the viewfinder. Some people will say that it is Apple like... However, this exposure adjustment is a bit too sensitive and inconvenient to use. This is a demonstration to maximize the exposure adjustment.

When we reduce the exposure to the minimum, we can see that the brightness of the camera has significantly decreased.

After entering the manual mode, we entered the ISO adjustment, and found that there were no new options, nor did we expect the shutter speed adjustment for a long time.

However, when we use camera applications that support the Lollipop Camera2 API (such as the Camera FV-5 we use here), the Galaxy S6 edge seems to have opened up the two channels of supervision and administration, adding ISO50 and ISO1600 modes.

The shutter adjustment supports the fastest 1/8000 second and the slowest 1/2 second shutter. Although it is not really a long exposure, it is still a big improvement compared with the past.

In addition, it also supports taking photos in RAW format and saving them as DNG files.

Although we have seen the powerful functions of supporting ISO50, 1/2 second shutter and RAW format, the actual shooting effect is disappointing. First, the focus is not accurate. Second, the imaging speed is too slow, which greatly reduces the effect of the new system with third-party photography applications. It is estimated that Samsung has hidden these functions because they have not been debugged properly. It is hoped that these functions can be added to the firmware in the future. The above is a sample of using ISO50 and 1/2 second shutter.

The RAW format file, which is about 30MB in size and PNG suffix, can be opened normally using Photoshop and other software.

Another "deep" change is that after typing "* # 34971539 #" on the dial panel, you can no longer view the model of the camera sensor, only the relevant firmware version information.

However, we can still check the sensor model of front and rear cameras through AIDA64.

In general, the Android 5.1.1 upgrade did not bring much practical function improvement to the Galaxy S6 edge, and the camera did not add some parameter adjustments we expected. Although some new functions can be "unlocked" by using some photography applications that support the Lollipop Camera2 API, they are not very practical due to compatibility reasons. The only consolation is that the exposure control of the official camera is more convenient.
