Participants in this horizontal review include S6 edge and LG G4, which are known as the strongest camera this year, and the legendary Nokia 1020, Moto X Pro with optical shake proof+IMX214. The previous generation flagship Note4 edge and G3 of Samsung and LG, the domestic model Xiaomi 4 which is also IMX214, and the Sony Z2 which uses IMX220 are used as reference models.
The first is the comparison of daytime proofs, mainly the discrimination/sharpness, followed by tolerance, white balance and photometry. The contrast of night weak light samples will be completed later. Maybe your conclusion or focus is different, but now let the sample "talk" by itself, and the author will not compare blindly.
explain
Among the 8 models, LG G3、 13 million pixels for Xiaomi 4 and Moto X Pro; S6 edge、Note4 ed Ge and LG G4 are 16 million pixels; Sony's Z2 is 20.7 million pixels (because the Z3 lens has been spent, it can only be represented by the previous generation of Z2...).
It should be noted that Lumia 1020, although its CMOS is 41 million pixels, actually produces a maximum output of 38 million pixels (7152 * 5360) of the original DNG film. At the same time, it also generates a 5 million pixel JPG photo, and the mapping software cannot process such a large sample. Therefore, the whole image below is compared with a 5 million pixel sample, while the details are compared with a partial magnified screenshot of a 38 million pixel sample.

It is recommended to use "ctrl+mouse wheel" to enlarge the webpage to 170% - 200% (ctrl+0 can restore the original proportion). Although the use experience is still very poor, at least I can barely see the name in the upper left corner of the sample... Click the magnifying glass in the upper right corner of the image to view the "original image".
The focus of all the proofs is at the center, and the order of the proofs is the same: from left to right, from top to bottom, Samsung S6 edge/Note4 edge/LG G3/LG G4, and Sony Z2/Lumia 1020/Xiaomi 4/Moto X Pro. The name of the model is also written in the upper left corner of the proofs.
Sample comparison
Scene 1 (the top of the building in the middle and far view, about 50m away)
Scene 2 zoomed in at the center (medium perspective, about 50m away)
Scene 2 zooms in at the center. The mesh above is actually hexagonal, but only G4, 1020 Moto X Pro You can see this detail in the sample
Scenario 3, more than 1km beyond the perspective. Although the white balance of 1020 is obviously blue, the tolerance of the proof is somewhat higher
Scene 3 central zoom in
Scene 3 zooms in on the left in the center. Pay attention to the noise in the sky. Sharpened models have very clear scenery edges, but the details may not be rich
Scene 4, the above figure compares tolerance, white balance and metering
Scene 4 zooms in at the center. The crazy sharpness of G4 has overwhelmed the whole court here, and note4 and MotoX Pro are also good
Scenario 5
Scene 5 Central zoom in
Scene 5 zooms in below the center. The G4 is the only model that can shoot the horizontal grid above, and the legendary monster 1020 can only vaguely see the horizontal stripes.
Scenario 6
Scene 6 is magnified in the center, with a distant view of about 2km. In the super vision, the details of 1020 are very violent. Even though this is a sample without any sharpening and noise reduction, you can still see the details on the window.
The sharpening machine will also have some minor side effects in exchange for high sharpness/discrimination: obvious white stripes appear on the crossbars on the roof, especially LG G4 and Moto X Pro.
Scene 6 Zoom in at the bottom of the center
Scenario 7. The wide angle of Note4 is obviously smaller. In the same close-up view, the unit scene can take up more pixels, which will have more advantages in theory
Scene 7 Central zoom in
summary
In daytime imaging, the white balance is not too far off the mark even if it is not too bad, but the white balance of Xiaomi 4 and Nokia 1020 often drifts, Strong and unsatisfactory performance; Moto X Pro is not accurate, but the floating range should be smaller; Other models do a lot better.
In terms of photometry, LG's flagship of both generations tends to be brighter than the naked eye. The metering of Samsung S6 edge and Note4 edge is closer to the naked eye, but still slightly darker. The metering of other machines is a bit erratic, and no specific tendency (especially 1020) was found.
Besides the collapse of Dafa's Z2, the discrimination that everyone cares about most is basically proportional to the number of pixels. The ranking from strong to weak is as follows:
The daytime imaging of LG G4 must have reached the top in the flagship plane, and its sharpening strength is even greater than Samsung's, and its analytical power has also successfully exceeded that of Note 4, the peak of Samsung's analytical power. The tolerance of the picture is also only second to 1020, which is quite adverse. In addition to some side effects brought by the strong sharpening, other performances have really moved the author, who often puts on a big picture, to kneel down;
Note4 is still Samsung's flagship machine with the strongest analytical power (kneeling in front of K zoom, an abnormal product), but the wide angle is very small, so it will suffer a little in scenes or group photos;
In the daytime, the Nokia 1020 with 3800W pixels is undoubtedly the one with the richest picture details and the best tolerance. However, in terms of analytical power/sharpness, the 1020 DNG format original film has not been sharpened and noise reduced at all, and the image seems to lack sharpness. After proper post-processing, its sample discrimination power can certainly greatly abuse G4 and Note4, but the frequent 40-50m samples and the threshold of manual PS make rich details appear "natural";
Moto X Pro, also a sharp manufacturer, did not disappoint everyone. Although the white balance and photometry were not very accurate, the daytime discrimination was really practical;
Samsung's flagship S6 edge has changed from Samsung's normal state, and the sharpening force is much less. In addition, the newly added wide angle has led to the reduction of the pixels of the unit scenery, and the discrimination/sharpness has even lost to the 13 million pixel model of the first echelon, which really makes the author a little sad (related to interests: it is my daily use machine...);
After all, LG G3 is an old flagship more than a year ago, and it still uses the mainstream sensor IMX135 two years ago. It is expected that the discrimination will be weaker. However, as an international manufacturer, even with old sensors, it is really better in algorithm optimization (in fact, it is mainly to improve the sharpness), and can basically draw with Xiaomi 4 using IMX214;
The most surprising thing is Dafa's Z2. Although it has an IMX220 sensor with 20.7 million pixels and is also a sensor manufacturer, the actual sample performance is still far from the 13 million pixel model. This performance even won't win many domestic machines, which is no wonder that when it comes to Z3+, Suofen will be so moved.
