According to internal sources, 70% of the orders for Apple A9 processors fell into the hands of Samsung and Globalfoundries. They will use the 14nm FinFET process to produce Apple A9 processors, and the remaining 30% will be made by TSMC using the 16nm FinFET process. The performance of processors made using the 14nm process will be improved by 20%, and the power consumption will be reduced by 35%.
Samsung said that the current 12 inch wafer production capacity has reached 30000 to 40000 pieces per month. The 14nm FinFET is currently mainly used in Apple A9 processors and Samsung's own 14nm Exynos processors. Previously, orders for A8 processors had all fallen into the hands of TSMC. This time, Samsung's lead in manufacturing process finally won back Apple's favor.
