In the following words, this is probably the name that Meilan Note has been given the most, and Meilan Note is much better than its own MX4 and MX4 Pro in terms of daily system fluency, endurance and use experience. So what about the most critical shooting performance of Meilan Note? Can the unknown Samsung CMOS actually perform well again?
This evaluation uses the latest retail version of Meizu's Meilan Note. There is no difference in hardware configuration and system from the previously evaluated Sample version, but the comparison evaluation uses the Meizu MX4 Sample version. However, it is a pity that after shooting the night scene comparison, the Meilan Note used for evaluation had the problem of unlimited restart, and the samples were completely lost. Due to time constraints, we changed another Meilan Note for daytime scene comparison. In the future, we will update or rewrite the night contrast.
In terms of photographing hardware, the MX4 is naturally much better than the Meilan Note. The MX4 uses the Sony IMX220 sensor, and the total number of pixels has reached 20.7 million, which is one of the largest number of pixels on Android phones. Compared with the 13 million pixel Samsung camera of Meilan Note, it is much higher.
In other aspects, the lenses of the Melanie Note and MX4 both have 5 lenses and F/2.2 aperture, and both are equipped with dual color temperature LED fill lights. However, the MX4 has the fastest focusing speed of 0.3 seconds, which is unmatched by the Melanie Note. In actual evaluation, the focusing time of the Melanie Note is often twice as long as that of the MX4.
Studio proof, high ambient light:
First, as usual, it is the sample in the studio. If there is no special instructions, the sample above is MX4, the sample below is Blue Note, the MX4 uses 20.7 million pixels for shooting, and the Blue Note uses 13 million pixels for shooting.
In the environment with sufficient light, both of them are performing fairly well. The MX4, with its higher quality sensors, is completely superior to the Magic Blue Note in terms of the amount of information and sharpness of the image, so here we are mainly concerned about the difference in hair color between the two.
The overall white balance of the MX4 is relatively accurate, which is close to the real situation. The white balance of the Meilan Note has a very obvious green phenomenon. The white background in the light box and the gray doll base have obvious green phenomenon. In addition, the contrast of the overall picture of the Meilan Note is much lower than that of the MX4, and the picture lacks a sense of hierarchy compared with the MX4.
When the screen is zoomed in, it is not difficult to find that there is a very obvious sharpening trace in the MX4 proof. A very obvious white line has appeared on the edge of the doll, causing the edge to be very unnatural. On the contrary, although there is a sharpening processor, the sharpening trace is relatively natural.
As for the control of image noise, the MX4 is naturally less noisy, but the MX4 is less noisy because the MX4 has carried out relatively obvious smearing, and the smearing method is relatively simple and rough. As for the Meilan Note, it does not have the same smearing as the MX4. Maybe Meizu also knows that the quality of the Meilan Note sensor is limited, So a good balance has been made between the purity of the picture and the details.
The overall detail retention of the Meilan Note sample can barely match the parameter of 13 million pixels, but it is still very different from the 13 million pixels of Samsung Galaxy Note 3. After all, the image center quality of Meilan Note can basically match its positioning.
Studio proof, in ambient light:
The upper sample is MX4, and the lower sample is Magic Blue Note.
At the edge of the picture, the performance of Meilan Note is good. The quality of the picture does not decline significantly relative to the center of the picture. The amount of detail remains at a good level. The edge of the object has a faint ring of "halo", which is caused by Meizu's sharpening of the picture. However, the picture is still natural as a whole, and the phenomenon of "halo" is also obvious in the MX4, I have to say that Meilan Note is better than the MX4 in this regard.
Turn off the light in the light box in half, and the performance of both is basically the same as that of the previous scene when the light is full. The white balance of both is fairly stable, and the contrast and detail performance are basically the same as that of the previous scene group. There is no need to talk too much here. The lack of layering of the Meilan Note screen is still an unavoidable problem, The excessive sharpening and smearing of the MX4 are still the same.
Another point is also the old problem of the MX4, which is the huge gap between the central image quality and the edge image quality. The central detail of the MX4 sample is quite excellent, but the details of the image edge are not good, or at least there is a very large gap. The Magic Blue Note maintains a good contrast, and there is no obvious gap when the line of sight moves from the center to the edge.
Studio proof, low ambient light:
The upper sample is MX4, and the lower sample is Magic Blue Note.
Turn off all the lights in the light box, and the quality advantage of the MX4 sensor is obvious, MX4 The center of the picture is much cleaner than the center of the picture of the Meilan Note, and the amount of detail is naturally more. The Meilan Note picture has a very obvious sense of frosting, and the night imaging of the thousand yuan machine has always been a big weakness, so it is not surprising that the Meilan Note has such a performance, but in the case of poor light, the Meilan Note focuses very slowly, from selecting the focus to completing the focus, Sometimes it takes more than 4 seconds, and sometimes it needs to focus for many times to be able to focus successfully. In the case of extremely bad light, Meilan Note will also fail to focus.
However, the picture brightness of Meilan Note is OK. If possible, you can use the manual mode to take photos, reduce the ISO and extend the shutter time to obtain better quality photos. However, for a mobile phone, the manual mode is still a good addition. If every photo is taken in the manual mode, it will lose the significance of mobile phone photography.
At the edge of the picture, the Magic Blue Note has lost a lot of details of the picture, but the picture is not too hard to see, but it can basically see the content of the object being photographed. It is still the same sentence, for a thousand yuan machine, the requirements need not be too high, as long as the performance is affordable, then there is nothing bad.
So in the studio, the conclusion is obvious. The MX4 basically beats the Meilan Note by virtue of its more excellent hardware quality, and the performance of Meilan Note is basically in line with the performance that a thousand yuan machine should have. How excellent it is is really impossible to say. It can have an average level. It is necessary to find fault with the focus. The focus speed of Meilan Note is generally a little slow, Especially when the light is poor, the focusing speed and success rate have declined significantly. As for the overall green white balance, it can't be said that 100% is a bad thing. In short, it's better to like it.
Daytime outdoor live photos:
Each group of samples is MX4 on the top and Meilan Note on the bottom.
When we compared the MX4 with Sony Xperia Z3, we found that Meizu is very aggressive in adjusting the color of the picture, often over rendering yellow or green, in pursuit of flattering effects. In this comparison, the MX4 is no exception. The yellow rendering is very excessive, the overall picture is warm, and the taste of sugar water is full.
In addition, we also found that the purple edge of the MX4 is quite serious. In the sidewalk samples, the leaves above have a very obvious purple edge phenomenon, which can be seen clearly without magnification. In contrast, the lower end of the Magic Blue Note, the purple edge phenomenon is much better controlled than the MX4.
In terms of white balance and hair color, the white balance and hair color of the Melanie Note are also closer to the real situation than the MX4, and the picture is relatively more natural. However, due to the limited CMOS performance of the Melanie Note, the overall dynamic range of the Melanie Note's samples is not large enough, for example, in the last group of samples that deliberately did not turn on HDR backlight, The building in front of the focus measuring point is selected, and the brightness of the building surface of the two buildings is basically the same, but the brightness of the other parts of the picture maintained by the Magic Note is far less than that of the MX4 with better CMOS quality. Based on the positioning of the Magic Note, this is understandable, and the overall color performance of the Magic Note has reached this level, which is quite satisfactory.
In addition to white balance and color accuracy, the overall picture quality of the sample of the Magic Blue Note is relatively average, which is also better than the MX4. There will be a very obvious picture quality degradation from the center of the MX4 picture to the edge of the picture, while the Magic Blue Note is relatively better, which is also one of the satisfying aspects.
Summary:
For a thousand yuan machine, the photographic quality of Meilan Note is qualified, but it is not excellent. Compared with its brother MX4, Meilan Note is far inferior to MX4 in overall picture details due to hardware reasons.
However, Meilan Note did not completely fall within my expectations. At least when comparing, I found that Meilan Note has a more appropriate color performance than the MX4. The rendering of colors also abandoned the "vulgar" feeling on the MX4, and returned to the right path, and Meilan Note was among the samples, The performance gap between the picture center and the picture edge is kept in a very good range. Unlike the MX4, the center is Yao Ming and the edge is Guo Jingming.
Personally, the biggest weakness of Meilan Note in taking photos is that the focusing speed is too slow, especially when the light is poor. The speed is extremely slow, and the focusing accuracy also needs to be improved. When taking macro photos, you need to take more photos.
So who won this comparison?
Strictly speaking, they all lost. Because both of them have problems, and both of them will really affect the use experience: the MX4 is excessively heavy on the flavor of hair color and sharpening, as well as the serious center edge image quality difference, the slow focusing speed and soft picture details of the Meilan Note, and the film rate is extremely low under the environment of insufficient light.
As for Meilan? It's better to like that sentence. At least the photo effect of Meilan Note is worthy of its price.
