The Indian court today granted Xiaomi a temporary license to continue to import mobile phones based on Qualcomm chips from India on the premise that each device has paid INR 100 in advance to the court.
This is an interim resolution of the court before its detailed investigation. Ericsson is confident that all claims of the defendant will be rejected at the next hearing scheduled for January 8. Xiaomi needs to obtain Ericsson's patent authorization for all its mobile phones sold to India, which will be clarified in the upcoming hearing.
In order to continue to invest in research, develop new ideas, new standards and new platforms, and promote industrial development, we must seek reasonable returns for our R&D investment. We look forward to working with Xiaomi to reach a fair and reasonable result for both sides, just as we have reached with all other authorized persons.
In view of the ongoing legal process, we are unable to provide more comments on this.
