Ericsson: Xiaomi refuses to pay reasonable patent fee
Ericsson: Xiaomi refuses to pay reasonable patent fee

Just when the Indian High Court announced that Xiaomi mobile phones were prohibited from being sold and imported in India, and Xiaomi's official website in India stopped selling, Ericsson issued a statement saying that Xiaomi refused to support reasonable licensing fees and said it was unfair. It is reported that the disputed patent between Ericsson and Xiaomi is a standard essential patent, which is applicable to the principles of fairness, reasonableness and non discrimination.

For a long time, Ericsson's efforts and commitment to support technology and innovation around the world are obvious to all. It is unfair for Xiaomi Company to refuse to pay reasonable licensing fees for our technology while benefiting from our huge R&D investment.

Over the past three years, we have been trying to have a sincere dialogue with Xiaomi on the patent licensing of its products that comply with GSM, EDGE and UMTS/WCDMA standards. However, Xiaomi has always refused to respond in any way to the licensing of Ericsson's intellectual property rights on the basis of the principles of fairness, reasonableness and non discrimination (FRAND). Ericsson had no choice but to take legal action.

In order to continue to invest in research, develop new ideas, new standards and new platforms, and promote industrial development, we must seek reasonable returns for our R&D investment. We look forward to working with Xiaomi to reach a fair and reasonable result for both sides, just as we have reached with all other authorized persons.

In view of the ongoing legal process, we are unable to provide more comments on this.
