OPPO's latest flagship mobile phone, N3, has a 16 million pixel sensor and Schneider certified lens, making photography its biggest selling point. OPPO, which has never sold its feelings, has given N3 a very confident 3999 yuan, pointing to the high-end mobile phone market. As for whether N3 is a "drug university", it is not easy to pull out a showdown with iPhone 6.
Specifications:
In the comparison of all samples, if there is no special mark or description, the top of each group is OPPO N3, and the bottom is iPhone 6.
Photo taking interface:
The photo taking interface of OPPO N3 is simple and clear. There are few options for adjustment in the fully automatic mode. Click the gear to enter the setting, and you can adjust the photo size, video resolution, etc. The back touch photo taking function is to take photos with the fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone as the shutter button of the phone. This function is very useful in self taking, and nothing else is special.
As for other functions, OPPO N3 supports camera APP and manual mode, N3 can adjust ISO, exposure compensation, white balance and manual focusing. Click the circle and box appearing on the screen to represent the light metering point and focus point respectively. The specific operation is to click to focus and measure light. After focusing is completed, drag the circle to other parts of the picture to change the light metering point while keeping the focus unchanged.
Shed shooting sample:
Since iPhone 6 does not provide manual mode and our N3 is still an engineering machine, the manual mode is not perfect, so the manual mode of N3 is not used for photo comparison. As for the night mode, it is not enabled in studio photography.
In the studio with good lighting, both of them play well, The white balance of N3 is a little more accurate, and the advantage of N3's 16 million pixels can also be brought into full play. The 16 million pixel photos taken in automatic mode are far better than the iPhone 6, which has only 8 million pixels in overall sharpness. In terms of color saturation, N3 has higher color saturation, while the iPhone 6 has lighter color performance.
After zooming in the picture, N3 has more obvious advantages in detail, but it should be noted that N3 is very sensitive to light measurement, and the picture brightness fluctuates greatly according to different light measurement points.
When you zoom in on the edge of the picture, it is not difficult to find that there are fewer noise spots in the iPhone sample, which is naturally related to the noise reduction processing in the iPhone. The iPhone uses noise reduction techniques to exchange clean pictures, but also to erase many details of the picture, such as the hair of the doll, N3 has more details than the iPhone 6.
After the lights are turned off, there are a lot of noise in the proofs of both. Since the N3 night view mode is not turned on here, the N3 naturally does not smear the image to reduce noise. The noise control and detail performance of the iPhone 6 are better. As for the white balance, the N3 remains accurate, while the iPhone 6 is slightly green.
At the center of the picture, iPhone 6 performs well, both noise control and detail performance are better, but the picture brightness is low, and the white balance is also green. N3 has many noise points, and the detail performance is poor, but the picture brightness is better and the white balance is accurate.
The picture edge is similar to the picture center.
It is easy to see from the comparison of the samples in the stable studio that, under the condition of sufficient light, OPPO N3 has better detail performance and color saturation than iPhone 6. As for the white balance, it is slightly warmer and less accurate than iPhone 6. Under the condition of insufficient light, the white balance of N3 is more accurate, but the details are inferior to iPhone 6.
In addition, in the process of shooting in the studio, I found that OPPO N3's light measurement is too sensitive. Sometimes clicking the same position several times can obtain different light measurement results, and the picture brightness is not stable enough.
As for the imaging speed, the N3 is very fast in the normal mode, and the shutter delay is also small, which is similar to the iPhone 6.
In terms of the overall experience of taking photos, the N3 adopts the mode of focusing and metering linkage. Click the point on the screen and then long press to lock the metering and focusing, which is very useful in actual use.
It's actually difficult to distinguish between good and bad in this link. When the light is sufficient, I personally like the picture details and bright colors brought by the high pixels of the N3. But I am also impressed by the more accurate white balance of the iPhone 6. When the light is insufficient, the situation of the two is reversed, making the two equal in this round.
Daytime imaging:
This group of samples was taken at about 7:48 a.m., when the sunrise had already risen, and N3 and iPhone 6 showed completely different color restoration styles. However, I would like to first explain that N3 won this group of samples, for the following reasons:
1. The N3 has an accurate white balance and can truly restore the scene when taking photos. The iPhone 6 is seriously blue, and this is not an exception;
2. N3 pixel is higher, and the details in the sample are more abundant after magnification;
3. The lens of N3 has a larger wide-angle. When the center is aligned at the same position, N3 can capture more scenes.
In addition, both of them show the advantage of accurate exposure, and some viewers may think that the photos of iPhone 6 are more beautiful, which is also in line with Apple's approach of pleasing the eye. However, from the perspective of accurately restoring the scene when taking photos, iPhone 6 is not doing well.
At the time of taking the above photo, the weather in Shenzhen was cloudy, and there was a certain amount of haze.
By analyzing the above samples in combination with the actual situation, it is not difficult to find that the photos taken by OPPO N3 have more gorgeous colors and higher contrast (although it is a bit too gorgeous compared with the actual situation), and white balance, OPPO N3's hair color is cooler than that of the iPhone in some samples and closer to the real situation, but in some samples, the white balance deviation similar to that of the iPhone appears, which is relatively unstable (it can be said that it is a bit too sensitive), In many cases, iPhone 6 prefers to render blue and yellow to please the eye and take "nice" photos. In most cases, the color restoration accuracy of iPhone 6 is not so good.
As for exposure, the problem with OPPO N3 is still that it is too sensitive to measure light. In many cases, OPPO N3 tends to measure light for a certain part of the picture, which leads to under exposure or overexposure of other parts of the picture. iPhone 6 is obviously more stable and appropriate for overall exposure, and can basically take into account the overall appropriate exposure of the picture.
OPPO N3 continues to give full play to the advantages of 16 million pixels in the above samples. The photos taken are rich in details and sharp after being magnified. The iPhone 6 is only 8 million pixels, so it is naturally inferior to N3 in terms of detail performance.
About HDR:
And I don't know whether it is due to the imperfect software of the engineering machine. The N3 in my hand will greatly improve the overall brightness of the picture in HDR mode, which is more unfavorable for retaining the details of the bright parts of the picture. I hope OPPO can fix this problem through software upgrade (the photo below is to open HDR).
As for the HDR function of iPhone 6, there is no need to say more. The effect of iPhone 6 when HDR is turned on is similar to that when HDR is turned off. It does not help to retain the details of the picture.
Night imaging:
From multiple samples, it is obvious that N3 has a higher brightness and cleaner picture. As for color restoration, N3 is closer to the real situation. However, after zooming in the picture, it is not difficult to find that N3's smearing makes the overall detail performance of the picture worse than that of iPhone 6 with lower pixels. In addition, iPhone 6 has more noise, but it is more natural on the whole, The deviation of the white balance is also within an acceptable range, and the film rate of iPhone 6 is relatively higher, so in this group of comparisons, iPhone 6 is better.
Under OPPO's "Colorful Night Shooting" mode, N3's photos are much brighter than the actual ones seen by the naked eye, which naturally has something to do with improving the sensitivity of CMOS. Under the same conditions, iPhone 6 uses Apple's traditionally very conservative exposure orientation, which is significantly lower than N3 in picture brightness. However, N3's in camera noise reduction processing is also obvious when shooting night scenes, There are very obvious smear marks on the whole picture. The picture looks cleaner, but it greatly reduces the performance of details. The image noise reduction of iPhone 6 is relatively small, and the details on the picture are more after zooming in.
As for the color and white balance, the iPhone 6 has a higher green saturation, and even the gray ground is rendered to light green, N3 However, the N3 has a manual mode, and the white balance and focus can be adjusted manually. Although it is not as detailed as the manual mode of Nokia or HTC, at least it is. If you are not in a hurry and don't care about the N3's weight of nearly 200g, You can adjust it manually. As for me, I can't hold the N3 anymore.
Electric panoramic function:
If the purpose of the electric rotating camera is to make it easier for the user to switch the photographing mode when holding the N3 with one hand, the electric panoramic function is an unexpected gain.
In practical operation, electric rotation is really a very practical function. On ordinary mobile phones, users must hold the phone firmly and rotate it with their waist or feet to take photos. First of all, regardless of the shooting effect, the arm will be very tired after taking such a picture, and the mobile phone will also require users to rotate at a relatively "reasonable" speed, The consequence is that I feel too troublesome to use the panorama function.
With the addition of the electric rotating camera to OPPO N3, the experience of this automatic panorama function has really improved. As long as the phone is aimed at the starting point of the picture to be shot, and then the button is pressed, the camera will automatically rotate to shoot. All users need to do is hold the phone firmly, It takes more than one minute and less than two minutes to take a picture with the maximum resolution using the automatic panorama function.
As for the overall imaging quality of panoramic photos, N3 does a good job. As long as the user's hands are stable enough, N3 can take very natural panoramic photos. For this function, it really needs to be praised.
Ultra clear image quality function:
The N3 is not OPPO's first mobile phone with ultra clear image quality, After the ultra clear image quality function of the N3 is enabled, it can take a maximum of 64 million pixels of photos, while the optional resolution is 32 million pixels. The larger the photos taken, the longer the processing time will naturally be. As one of the most distinctive functions of OPPO N3 in terms of photography, this ultra clear image quality function is very practical when traveling.
The second photo above was taken after the ultra clear image quality was turned on. One photo taken after the function was turned on reached 13MB. Therefore, in order to reduce the pressure of browsing and server, the image was compressed and uploaded.
The two photos are obviously different in hair color. In automatic mode, The pictures taken by N3 are rich in color, and the saturation of the petals is very high. After the picture is enlarged, the stamen part also has some sharp traces, while the pictures taken in the ultra clear mode have a relatively light and natural color, and after zooming in, the sharp traces of the picture are much less, the overall natural and refreshing, and even the white balance is slightly more accurate.
Enlarge the flower part. It is obvious that under the ultra clear image quality mode, the pattern of the petal part is clearer, and even the layer of hair on the stigma of the stamen can be photographed. The overall color is natural, and the picture has no obvious sharpening marks. Under the ordinary mode, the pattern of the petal is less obvious, And the very detailed parts of the stamens are not as clear and visible as those in the ultra clear picture quality mode, and the sharpening marks are also quite obvious.
It has to be said that OPPO's ultra clear image quality mode can not only greatly improve the detailed performance of the pictures when the light is sufficient, but also more importantly, the saturation of the pictures taken is more appropriate, and the details of the pictures are more natural and comfortable. Therefore, when high-quality pictures need to be taken under good light conditions, It is entirely possible to use the ultra clear image quality mode instead of the automatic mode. The waiting time for synthesis and the consumption of memory are acceptable costs for improving the image quality.
Summary:
As the leader of domestic mobile phones, OPPO attaches great importance to photography. The 1/2.3 inch 16 million pixel sensor and the Schneider certified wide-angle lens are full of sincerity. When compared with the iPhone 6, which is currently the first echelon of mobile phone photography, OPPO N3 is not inferior. Photos taken in good light have better detail performance in most cases, more gorgeous colors and more accurate white balance. When the light is insufficient, N3 can take brighter photos, and the white balance is more practical, although not as good as iPhone 6 in detail performance, However, considering the inherent advantage of the iPhone 6's larger area per pixel, the N3 is qualified to have this performance.
In terms of photographing function, N3 shines with its automatic panorama function and ultra clear image quality. The automatic panorama function has greatly improved the experience of photographing panoramic photos. Reasonable use of the ultra clear image quality function can make N3's already excellent detail resolution even better.
Of course, N3's photography software is not perfect. N3 is overly sensitive to light, and the stability of light measurement and white balance is poor. As a result, N3's overall film production rate is not as good as that of iPhone 6. In many scenes, it often takes several photos to obtain satisfactory results. iPhone 6's imaging is very stable in the same situation.
If we can sum up the results of the comparison between the two in terms of photography in one sentence, it is that N3 dominates during the day, iPhone 6 dominates at night, N3 has the advantage in functionality, and iPhone 6 has the advantage in ease of use. This can be regarded as a competition between experts. If OPPO can further improve the shortcomings of N3 in future system updates, it would be great.
