Previously, it was reported that Sony's flagship mobile phone Xperia Z4 in 2015 would introduce an active color separation sensor (APCS) on the camera. Now relevant patents and technical details have been exposed, and this confusing black technology has once again added credibility.

APCS

The full name is Active Pixel Color Sampling, that is, "active color separation sampling" sensor. Different from the traditional Bayer array sensor (RGB Bayer), APCS CMOS realizes the output of real R, G and B color information with one pixel, and has lower power consumption. Specifically, APCS CMOS makes the same pixel sensitive to the R, G, B tricolor filter film in one sensitivity cycle through the high-speed transmission of the filter.

APCS amazing performance (according to information provided by Justeightsister):

- 1280 × 720p sampling rate up to 36000fps

- 1920 × 1080p sampling rate can reach 24000fps

- 2K (2048x1080p) sampling rate can reach 16000fps

- 4K/6K (6144x2160p) sampling rate can reach 240fps

- 1000 fps output under native ISO 5120 sensitivity, realizing 21.282 gear (127.69dB) dynamic range

According to the exposure of foreign websites, Sony has applied for a patent for APCS technology, which is likely to test the waters on its flagship mobile phone next year, and the camera used for interchangeable lens may wait until 2016 at the earliest.
