Comparison between Nexus 9 and iPad Air 2
Comparison between Nexus 9 and iPad Air 2

Although Adobe released a report last month that consumers are gradually reducing their use of tablet computers to browse, they are using large screen smartphones instead. Gartner also pointed out a similar problem in the third quarter global device sales report, saying that although tablet sales are still increasing, the speed is far less than in previous years.

But as two major technology giants, Apple and Google released their tablet products one after another in less than 24 hours: iPad Air 2 and Nexus 9. Can the birth of these two products curb this downward trend? Let's take a look at these two products.

 iPad Air 2

The Nexus 9 has a plastic frame and aluminum body. Since the Nexus 9 is manufactured by HTC, HTC said that the reason for using the plastic frame is that on the one hand, the cost is reduced, and on the other hand, the Nexus 9 is a device operated by one hand. The plastic frame has greater friction and is not easy to slip off the hand. Although Apple claims that the iPad Air 2 is thin enough and comfortable to operate with one hand, it seems that Apple has forgotten that the iPad Air 2 weighs 437g while the Nexus 9 weighs 425g.

In terms of thickness, the iPad Air 2 completely beats the Nexus 9. The 6.1mm thickness marks the iPad Air 2 as the thinnest plate.

In terms of color matching, Nexus 9 only has white and gold sand colors. This time, Apple added Tuhao gold color matching to its new product.

As a digital display device, its screen is the core component. Google Nexus 9 has upgraded from a standard 1080p display to a 2048x1536 2K (i.e., QHD) Gorilla Glass 3 display, with a pixel density of 287 per inch.

The Apple iPad Air 2 still uses the same resolution as the 2013 product, namely 2048x1536, with a pixel density of 264 per inch.

Processor and memory

Apple's iPad Air 2 uses a faster 64 bit A8X processor with 2GB of memory, which not only easily supports new video and picture editing software, but also greatly improves image display, and does not consume too much power.

The new A8X processor is 40% faster than the A7 processor used by the previous generation iPad Air, and its image function is 180 times stronger than the original iPad. The GPU is 2.5 times faster than the A7 processor. Based on the ARMv8-a architecture, this is an improved version of the 64 bit chip on the iPhone 6 A8. The Apple A8X 20 nm chip is 12 times faster than the first generation iPad.

The Nexus 9 is similar to the 64 bit Nvidia Tegra K1 processor and 2GB memory, and its performance and stability are similar to those of Apple's new products.

According to the previous test results, Tegra K1 of Nexus 9 has exceeded Apple's A8 processor in single core performance, and even nearly twice the performance of Galaxy Note 4. It has finally closed the single core performance gap between iOS and Android devices. But unfortunately, it is still impossible to compare it with Apple's latest A8X processor.

Interface and function

It can be said that this is the most intense collision between Android and iOS. The new Android 5.0 and iOS 8 will undoubtedly provide a top user experience.

In fact, in addition to the creator of software essence, the two systems have many similarities.

Android has always been known for its flexibility in functions, and the open source platform gives users more choices, which is why Android's loading capacity accounts for most of the market. IOS is still a smooth and fluid mobile platform.

camera

More and more users like to take photos with a flat panel, so the previous flat panel camera hardware can no longer meet the needs of users. Apple has also upgraded the rear camera of the iPad Air 2 to 800w pixels this time. Apple's graphics optimization capability is well known, so the 800w hardware configuration can absolutely meet the daily needs of users. The Nexus 9 uses the same configuration.

Battery

The battery capacity of Google Nexus 9 is 6700mAh, and it can last 9.5 hours, twice as long as the Nexus 7.

Apple's iPad Air 2 also claims to have a 10 hour battery life. Apple said that the A8X processor has low power consumption and can run programs and games without affecting the battery life. This has yet to be proved.

summary

Nexus 9 and iPad Air 2 can be said to be the best two tablet products in the market at present. There is no doubt that these two devices will be successful in the market, although we can't say which one will be more successful.

Google Nexus 9 will be booked from this Friday and purchased from November 3. The price is $399 for the 16GB version and $499 for the 32GB LTE version, but it has not been determined yet.

Apple's iPad Air 2 will be shipped next week. The retail price of the 16GB version is $499, the 64GB version is $599, and the 128GB version is $699. However, the version supporting cellular communication costs more than 130 dollars.
