Blue collar Xiaowenqing Sony Xperia E3 evaluation
Blue collar Xiaowenqing Sony Xperia E3 evaluation

Sony's products have always been very artistic and tall. This is the case with the Z3 series released this time. However, under the light of Z3 and Z3 Compact, there is also an Xperia E3 that focuses on low-end and practical use. With its low price and Sony's always special appearance design, it is actually worth seeing.

As the cheapest LTE smartphone under Sony, the specification of E3 will certainly not be as brilliant as that of the flagship phone. However, E3 still has Sony's stylish color matching and appearance design, as well as the mainstream Android 4.4 operating system. Compared with other low-end computers, at least the appearance of Xperia E3 adds a lot.

Specifications:

  • 4.5 inch IPS screen, 480P, 218ppi;

  • Support LTE network;

  • Android 4.4.2;

  • Snapdragon 400 processor, maximum frequency 1.2GHz, 1GB RAM;

  • 5 megapixel camera, supporting 1080P video recording;

  • 4GB expandable memory;

  • 2330 mAh battery, STAMINA power saving mode.

Appearance design:

The exterior design of E3 looks like a combination of Xperia M2 and Xperia Z3. The front is flat and clean, without any physical buttons, and the screen is good when it is not lit up. Unfortunately, E3 belongs to the type of dead light screen, and the touching frame cannot be ignored.

The microphone of E3 is hidden in the grille below the front, and it should be pointed out that E3 is not equipped with dual speakers. After all, low-end machines do not require too much.

The side design of E3 continues to be in the style of Xperia, and the round plastic is used in the four corners like that of Xperia Z3 to cushion the phone when it falls.

On the right side of the fuselage are the symbolic round power button and volume button.

There is only one USB 2.0 interface on the left side of the fuselage.

The top of the fuselage is the headphone port, while the bottom of the fuselage is empty.

The back is made of frosted material, which feels good to hold, while the single speaker is below the back.

A 5 megapixel lens and a single LED fill light are above the body, and the NFC logo on the back also means that Sony has graciously equipped this low-end mobile phone with NFC chips.

The back cover can be removed, but the E3 cannot replace the battery. After removing the back cover, you can see the SIM card slot and SD card slot.

The E3 is not like a phone with only a 4.5 inch screen. The narrow frame design is not used, which makes the width and height of the E3 far exceed those of the phone with the same screen size. Fortunately, the overall work of the E3 is very solid, and it feels durable enough to handle. There is no uncomfortable feeling in the hand.

Screen:

4.5 inch, WVGA and E3 screens are certainly not the best in this class of mobile phones. 720P players such as MOTO G catch a lot of them, but for entry-level mobile phones, WVGA resolution screens are not useless.

The black display effect of E3 is OK. It belongs to the middle level in the same level. The contrast performance is also good. The maximum brightness of the screen has reached 608 nits, which is commendable. The biggest weakness is the pixel density, which has no advantage over MOTO G.

In terms of outdoor visibility, E3 performs well. Its performance is similar to that of the previous flagship Z2. There is no problem in normal outdoor use, but there is definitely a gap between the best and the best.

Endurance:

The endurance of E3 is very good. The 2330 mAh battery can maintain a maximum of 14 hours and 28 minutes of talk time and 9 hours and 48 minutes of web browsing time. Even the video playback time has reached 8 hours and 26 minutes. The final overall rating is 75 hours, that is, under the use of ordinary intensity, The battery of E3 can last for three days, and even heavy use can last for two days. It seems that Sony does not boast about the endurance of E3.

Performance:

The built-in processor of E3 is a Snapdragon 400 processor, with only 1GB of RAM. The processor architecture is Cortex-A7, with a maximum frequency of 1.2GHz. The GPU is Adreno305. The overall operation of E3 is very smooth. After several more APPs are opened, the remaining memory drops to 140MB, but the system does not get stuck, which is commendable.

In addition, it is worth mentioning that E3 did not do any "targeted optimization" on the run score.

From the test results, the Snapdragon 400 processor still has no problem in dragging the E3's WVGA resolution screen. The processing ability can be used, and the most important thing is that it can save enough power. For an entry-level mobile phone, the lack of performance shortcomings is very commendable.

Camera:

The camera specifications of E3 are also average in this class of mobile phones, but it is still quite eye-catching to be able to shoot 1080p video. Compared with MOTO G, which can only shoot 720p video, E3 has an advantage this time.

E3's photography software is very perfect. It has not only an automatic scene recognition mode, but also a manual mode. In the manual mode, there are a lot of settings for users to adjust. The AR camera commonly seen on other Sony phones has also appeared on E3, with creative effects. In addition, E3 can also download the camera APP provided by Sony to expand the camera functions.

Although the E3 camera does a good job in terms of functionality, if it is more accurate than the picture quality, the answer given by this 5 megapixel camera is average and the amount of detail is medium. However, excellent noise control and no transition sharpening of the picture are commendable.

The color restoration of E3 photography is good, focusing and imaging speed are fast, and the exposure of the film is accurate, but the tolerance of this camera is general. In terms of macro, the recent focusing distance of this camera is far, which also leads to the general picture details, and the effect of background virtualization is not obvious.

In terms of HDR, the HDR function of E3 can indeed retain many details of the dark part of the picture, but HDR makes the picture look less contrast on the whole, and the effect is generally average.

The performance of panoramic photos is satisfactory. Although the resolution is average (5 million pixels in total), the picture details are still good after zooming in. However, due to the tolerance of this camera, some parts of the picture are still not ideal.

Summary:

E3 is a bit awkward: Sony doesn't want E3 to threaten its other mid-range phones, but it has its own highlights and characteristics in the crowded mid-range market.

The biggest weapon of E3 is its excellent endurance time. Its endurance ability easily beats all competitors. Supporting LTE network, excellent workmanship and feel, and Sony Software plus Chengdu are the branches of E3 that can not be ignored. The camera has rich functions but ordinary effects, which are neither too bad nor useless.

For people who like watching content on the screen, E3's screen resolution is indeed a bit low, but for people who can accept WVGA resolution screens, E3 is the best choice.

Main features:

  • Excellent body workmanship and feel, bright color matching appearance;

  • Excellent screen brightness and large viewing angle;

  • Strong battery life;

  • For a mobile phone that supports LTE, the price is very generous;

  • The system is smooth.
