According to the foreign media Apple Insider, the market research organization NPD DisplaySearch pointed out in a report released a few days ago that Apple Watch smart watches are equipped with flexible AMOLED displays, and the cost of each group is estimated to be about 27.41 dollars (about 168 yuan).
According to the data of HIS, a market research organization, the cost of the 4.7-inch retinal display of the iPhone 6 is about 45 dollars (about 276 yuan).
In terms of unit screen size, the screen cost of Apple Watch with a 1.5-inch screen is 4.19 times that of iPhone 6 with a 4.7-inch screen! (The former is 2.25 square inches and the latter is 9.43 square inches).
In fact, the cost statistics of display screens in these two surveys both include the cost of display screens, touch modules, surface glass and labor in the production process. Of Apple Watch's $27.41, only $7.86 is said to come from the display itself, and most of the additional costs come from surface glass and touch modules. It is still uncertain whether sapphire glass is also included in the statistics.
Flexible AMOLED is 65% thinner than the traditional LCD screen, and 50% lighter than the AMOLED panel on the glass backplane, so it is unexpected to use it in wearable devices, but we did not expect it to be so expensive.
In addition, the shipments of OLED display screens for smart watches in the quarter of 2013 were only about 1 million sets. However, with the promotion of Apple, the purchase volume in the fourth quarter of this year should exceed 8 million sets.
