In the field of sports cameras, HTC is a completely new name. Now the share of sports cameras is firmly held by GoPro cameras. This cake seems to be very attractive to HTC, so HTC used RE cameras to beat the drum of the battle against GOPRO cameras.
When we first saw the RE camera, we were a little surprised: is this a camera? However, at least in terms of workmanship, it is very HTC, but this periscope similar to the one with the eyepiece cut off is really different from the existing sports cameras on the market.
The shell of the RE camera is made of a whole piece of polished plastic, which is very unique in appearance. Inside, the sensing element of the RE camera is a 1/2.3 inch CMOS sensor with 16 million pixels; In terms of lens, RE has a 146 ° wide-angle lens with an aperture of F/2.8.

Of course, the sports camera cannot be waterproof. The protection level of the RE camera has reached IP57, so users can be assured to take the RE camera into the water to take photos (cough). The rigorous and dense workmanship also makes the RE not so easily broken. There is an independent shutter button at the bend of the top. The user can let RE take a picture by pressing once, or record a video by long pressing. However, it should be noted that the position of the built-in microphone of RE is set strangely, and it is covered carelessly in actual use.
Wake up RE is very simple: just hold it in your hand. This also makes it very easy to use RE to take photos quickly. However, RE has no screen. Even if users take photos, they can't immediately know what kind of photos they have taken and whether they have taken the things they want to take. Of course, the RE camera can also be connected to the Android smartphone through Bluetooth. After the RE control program is installed, the phone screen can be used as the viewfinder of the RE, and it can also take photos remotely. Of course, you can also download photos from the RE to the phone.
The author took the RE camera to New York City for a few days. To be honest, the imaging quality of the RE camera is a bit disappointing, the shutter speed is too slow, the white balance is also a bit warm, and the recorded video is generally flat and the effect is also disappointing. Of course, the current engineering testing machine can't represent the retail machine that consumers finally buy. We also hope HTC can do a good job in software optimization before the official launch of the RE camera. After all, the price of $200 is not too cheap.
