Yesterday, Zhang Yaqin, the former chairman of Microsoft Asia Pacific R&D Group, just announced his departure from Microsoft. Baidu announced today that Zhang Yaqin officially joined Baidu as president, responsible for emerging businesses. Before joining Baidu, Zhang Yaqin was the senior vice president of Microsoft and chairman of Microsoft Asia Pacific R&D Group, responsible for the overall layout of Microsoft's research and product development in the Asia Pacific region.
Li Yanhong, chairman and CEO of Baidu, said, "We are very happy to welcome Dr. Zhang Yaqin to our senior management team. Dr. Zhang Yaqin has profound technical attainments and rich business experience, and will make valuable contributions to our entry into emerging business fields."
"I am very excited to join Baidu at such a critical turning point in the Internet industry," said Zhang Yaqin
Zhang Yaqin joined Microsoft in 1999 and is one of the founders of Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA). He once served as the president and chief scientist of Microsoft Research Asia, the global vice president of Microsoft, and the chairman of Microsoft China.
