User privacy security has always been a product feature that Apple vigorously promotes, but advertisers and retailers can still track some users of Apple devices. As Apple's newly upgraded iOS 8 system, what about its security?
We know that every intelligent device has a MAC address, and the address of each device is unique. Therefore, the third party can use the MAC address to track those users who are connecting to Wi Fi on the user's device.
According to a report from the location tracking company Airlight Networks, iOS 8 users must make specific settings to enable the MAC masquerade function, including turning off location services and cellular data, which will bring trouble to users. The company also found that this function only works when the device is in sleep mode, but it does nothing when the device wakes up.
Although iPhone 6 can support MAC address camouflage, iPhone 5 and older devices do not. Even if MAC masquerade is enabled, advertisers can still find out the real MAC address.
