Nowadays, most smart watches don't look very impressive. Of course, you will see different screen sizes and materials, but in most cases they are not different. However, these two smart watches still let us see their differences: Samsung Gear S and Moto 360.
size
Because of its huge and futuristic design, the Gear S is definitely not refined. Although the appearance of Moto 360 looks more like a classic watch, it is not small.
texture of material
There may be some stainless steel on the main body of the Gear S, but the front is mainly glass (huge curved screen), and the back is mainly plastic. At the same time, the Moto 360's body is made of smooth stainless steel.
colour
Both watches are available in two different colors. Gear S is white and black; Moto 360 is gray and black.
Software
What we see is the comparison between Samsung's Tizen platform for wearable devices and Android Wear system.
The advantage of the Wear system is that it has better voice control and more direct integration with Android mobile applications. However, the Tizen version running on Gear has also been expanded, far more than the previous Gear watch.
Display screen (shape)
The Gear S is different from any smart watch used before because it has a striking curved screen. Although Moto 360's screen is not curved, its design of round narrow edges is no inferior. We asterisked the "circle" describing the Moto 360 screen because a small piece was cut off at the bottom.
Display screen (size)
The screen area of Moto 360 is about 97% of that of the Gear S. Because the Moto 360 screen is not completely round, calculating its available area is a bit tricky. However, after calculating the numbers and calculating how many are cut off at the bottom, we are confident that the screen area of Moto 360 is almost 96.5% of that of Gear S. This shows that the measurement of the diagonal of the screen can deceive people -- especially when you compare the circular and rectangular displays.
Display screen (resolution)
The screen of the Gear S is really clearer, which is a good choice because it is designed to be more like a smartphone. Android Wear like Moto 360 is currently more suitable for scanning information quickly.
Display screen (type)
The Gear S also has a Super AMOLED screen, which usually means richer colors and higher contrast.
Continuous display
The Android Wear watch is designed to display continuously, but Samsung's Gear S will be the first Tizen watch with this function.
Independent wireless
Although the Gear S has 3G functions, you can't be too happy too soon. Because Samsung seems to be playing down this feature.
Mobile phone adaptation
When it comes to paired phones, Gear S will need to be paired with Samsung Galaxy phones running Android 4.3 and higher. In this part, Moto 360 is more versatile, because it can be well matched with any Android phone running Android 4.3 or higher.
Voice control
In addition to the "sexy" design, this may be the biggest advantage of Moto 360 over Gear. Google Now voice control of Android Wear is faster and more accurate than S Voice in Gear. However, the S Voice version of Gear S has some improvements compared with the previous version of Gear.
Changeable watchband
Both watches can replace the default strap with something else. For Moto, it can be a standard 22mm belt. We are not sure whether the Gear S can match the standard watchband well or whether we need Samsung OEM substitutes.
Waterproofness
Both watches are IP67 (the industry standard for smart watches today) waterproof. This means that it can be immersed in 1m (3.3 feet) of water for 30 minutes and can continue to rotate.
Heart rate sensor
Both watches are equipped with pulse monitors on the back.
Battery
The above estimates need to be viewed rationally, because these data are directly from manufacturers.
Charging mode
The Moto 360 includes a wireless charging board, while the Gear S will have a charging base plugged into the back.
Physical keys
Each watch has a physical button -- the Gear is at the bottom of the screen, and the Moto is at the side.
camera
Samsung's early two smart watches both have built-in cameras, but the Gear S does not.
Integrated GPS
In addition to 3G, the Gear S also has a built-in GPS. It comes with Nokia's Here application, focusing on pedestrian navigation. The Moto 360 does not have a GPS radio, but it does display navigation on the screen (the GPS on the phone takes on the heavy responsibility).
keyboard
The Gear S is a rare smart watch equipped with a QWERTY keyboard. The 2-inch screen is very large for watches, but it is still a bit cramped for typing. Fortunately, Samsung's auto correction function is nearly perfect. The Gear S will also support third-party keyboard applications.
conversation
All Samsung Gears based on Tizen can let you make phone calls on your watch. Android Wear does not support calls yet.
speaker
In fact, early Wear watches, such as Moto 360, do not support calls, even though Android Wear can. Because they don't have speakers.
storage
You may not need to worry about this problem, but both phones provide 4GB of storage space.
release
Strictly speaking, Moto 360 is already on sale, but it is completely sold out online. If no one has been booked, it may be necessary to wait for some time for the supply to catch up with the demand. Although the exact time is unknown, Gear S is expected to be released one day in October.
Price
The price of the Gear S is still a question mark. However, if you are expecting a budget price, you may be disappointed. It may cost more than the previous Gear watch (up to $300).
It is not surprising if the U.S. operator provides a subsidy contract or installment plan for Gear S.
