Samsung and HTC have launched two flagship phones, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One (M8), this year. If you are still wondering which smartphone to use next, the Galaxy S5 and M8 will be a good choice. The following is a real-time evaluation comparison of these two phones made by Gizmag website for your reference.
Galaxy S5 and iPhone 5s differ greatly in size, but both belong to large screen phones. Compared with GS5, HTC One M8 is 3% longer in length and 3% narrower in width. But at first glance, the size of the two phones is not much different.
In terms of workmanship, the HTC One M8 with aluminum shell design has an excellent texture, (as shown in the above figure) is full of charming metal colors, and has an self-evident arrogance. The smooth polished metal appearance is unique, which shows that HTC has made great efforts in design.
The design of the Galaxy S5 can only be described as "unique taste". The back of the fuselage is made of artificial leather, which looks like a "Band Aid". Although the surface of the fuselage is somewhat metallic, it is made of plastic after all. If you like extremely fine workmanship and high-end design, you can stop here. The Galaxy S5 is not made of this material. In addition, the HTC One M8 can be said to be the best designed smartphone after the iPhone 5s. However, the design of the Galaxy S5 is not without merit. But the fact of plastic material can't be changed. Samsung's original intention is to make a design that looks far high-end and grand. It's OK from a distance, but I dare not compliment you from a close look.
However, the artificial leather shell of the Galaxy S5 also has advantages. First, the GS5 body weight is 9% lighter than the One M8, and more importantly, the GS5 has excellent grip. The large screen machine was a bit bulky at first. The GS5 just made up for this defect in material selection, while the aluminum metal texture of the One M8 seems to make the body appear heavier and harder.
In addition, the One M8 has another obvious feature in the sense of grip: the microphones below the screen are arranged in a long row, like a grille, which is unprecedented on other mobile phones, so it is possible to award M8 a "Largest Mobile Microphone" award. And the speaker sound effect of this microphone is excellent, absolutely second to none. Amazingly, the sound effect is loud, clear and full. If you have used the One M7 and experienced the high-quality sound effect of the M7, you will find that the sound effect of the M8 has reached a new level.
The body size is similar, the One M8 screen is 5 inches, and the Galaxy S5 screen is 5.1 inches. One M8 uses virtual touch screen navigation buttons, while GS5 uses the navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen. This means that GS5 can provide 100% of the screen for users to use. After all, a small part of the screen bottom screen of One M8 is occupied by the "virtual home page" key, the "return" key and the "recently used APP" key.
But it is different in Android immersion mode. The navigation key will fade out from the picture library, video or other apps (the virtual navigation key can be clicked by simply swiping the screen), which is crucial to the One M8 screen. However, Android applications that do not support immersive mode will make the actual screen area smaller than the screen area. The screens of both phones have a resolution of 1080p, and the colors are clear. But I will not judge a mobile phone by the quality of the display screen, because their quality is excellent.
GS5's flagship feature is its IP67 waterproof function. Under the condition that the battery case and charging port are well sealed, there is no problem to absorb 3.3 feet of water in 30 minutes. If you want to try to answer the phone in the bathtub or shallow swimming pool, GS5 will definitely satisfy you. For those users who are easy to drop their mobile phones into the toilet or pool, with the IP67 waterproof performance of GS5, there is no need to worry about it. The HTC One M8 has no waterproof function.
There is also a heart rate monitor on the GS5, which is located at the back of the body, directly below the rear camera, and is bound to Samsung's S-class health app, as shown in the above figure. GS5 is the first mobile phone with a dedicated pulse sensor.
The GS5 continues to use the fingerprint scanner function, similar to the iPhone 5s, and the GS5 home key also has a biometric function. You can unlock the screen with a flick of your finger. Fingerprint sensing is very sensitive and accurate. However, compared with Apple's identity recognition function, GS5 swipe screen unlocking is slower and more inconvenient than holding your finger on the home key.
But the biggest highlight of GS5's fingerprint sensing is that it is bound to third-party applications. You can log into PayPal or authorize transactions through fingerprint identification information. In the future, we will see more third-party applications cooperate with GS5's fingerprint sensing function.
HTC released tablet phones in 2013: One Max, There is a fingerprint scanner on the back of its body. Later, HTC also used the bio sensor function on the One M8.
The manipulation is too complicated? This is a thing of the past. The motion launch function of HTC One M8 brings a new experience. When the phone is close to your ear, you can call from the node. When you swipe your fingertip, you can open the application. When you tap the screen twice, you can wake up the phone. Perhaps the most useful startup function is on the camera. In landscape mode, just press the volume key to start the camera. On the contrary, the camera of GS5 starts too slowly.
The resolution of GS5 is higher, but the camera of One M8 has other advantages. The most obvious one is its low light level processing effect. Under the dual LED flash light, the image of the One M8 under dark light and low light is brighter, more harmonious, more bright colors, even and balanced pixels.
The One M8 also has a camera on the back of the body, in which the UFocus function will share and reproduce the filter and refocus function that could only be displayed on the small screen of the phone on the web interface. In addition to depth of field focusing, it also provides functions such as changing background and mapping.
This tall function is a good choice for photography lovers. However, the Galaxy S5 has no depth of field sensing hardware. It can only produce a shot through software operations, but it is very limited because it can only be shot within 45.7cm of the scene.
Both phones have long battery life. When the video is played continuously at 75% screen brightness, GS5 lasts for 9 hours and 27 minutes, and One M8 lasts for 9 hours and 20 minutes. They all have excellent battery performance, so don't worry about that. Samsung launched the Ultra Power Saving Mode function in February this year. When the phone enters this mode, the battery can be extended for 24 hours at a time, which is very powerful.
The One M8 also has a similar battery life function. In March this year, HTC's Extreme Power Saving Mode function was used. When the power is lower than a certain value, the function will start automatically.
These two mobile phones have their own advantages. We can't simply say which is good and which is bad. But if I choose, I will choose One M8. I cannot refuse such a product with fine workmanship and excellent design. Moreover, M8's elegant Sense software interface is more beautiful than GS5's TouchWiz.
But I also have reason to choose GS5, which has comfortable grip, lightweight body, convenient and safe fingerprint identification, high-resolution camera and IP67 waterproof level. Moreover, many functions in Samsung TouchWiz interface are more suitable for business people.
