All Netcom Kill Nubia Z7 Max Evaluation
All Netcom Kill Nubia Z7 Max Evaluation

On July 8, Nubia officially released three mobile phones of its new product, the Z7 series, the Z7, the Z7 max and the Z7 mini, covering the price range from 1499 yuan to 3456 yuan. They all use Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 series processors. Among them, Z7 Max and Z7 mini have taken the lead in the market. The former uses 5.5 inch large screen, MSM8974AC processor, All Netcom dual 4G and other configurations. Today, the protagonist of our evaluation is also this "Daniel 3".

The suffix Max appears on Nubia's product line for the first time. Its market positioning is somewhat similar to that of the previous Z5S. At the price of 1999 yuan, which is a "competitive" price for manufacturers, Z7 Max meets many users with this demand through the feature of dual cards and dual standby for full network access. The above is the specification comparison of the three models of the Z7 series.

It can be seen that the Z7 Max maintains the same MSM8974AC processor as the flagship product Z7, but it is reduced in other specifications. It is a pity that the Ram is only 2G, but at the price of 1999 yuan, the 32G Rom is more honest. The camera is still 5 million+13 million, but it lacks optical anti shake compared with the Z7. As the flagship product, Z7 uses a metal frame and 2K screen.

appearance

Like Nubia's previous products, the front design of the Z7 Max is relatively simple, and it still has the symbolic red circle type home key

The earpiece is close to the upper frame. There is a light sensor and a distance sensor under the earpiece. On the right is the front 5 megapixel camera

There is only one red circle home button below when the screen is turned off

When the fingers touch, the red dots on both sides of the home key will also light up. They act as menu keys and return keys, and support custom functions

The back is a plastic back cover with black matt coating. The overall design style is very similar to that of Z5S mini, and it also comes down in one continuous line with that of Z7 mini. The speaker is located at the lower left corner.

There is a 13 million pixel camera at the rear, which uses Sony's imx214 stack type second-generation sensor. There is an LED fill light on the left, and the camera is not convex

There is a 3.5mm headphone connector on the top and an infrared sensor on the side

The bottom has a micro USB interface and a call microphone

The physical keys on the body are concentrated on the right side of the phone, including the volume key and the power key, which are convenient to use when holding the phone with the right hand

The lower right corner of the fuselage has a groove for opening the cover

The Z7 Max has a detachable back cover, but the battery cannot be removed. The purpose of opening the back cover is to plug in micro SD cards and dual SIM cards. There is an NFC coil on the back cover

UI

The latest nubia UI V2.5 has been pre installed on the Z7 Max when it leaves the factory. All three Z7 series mobile phones use this system. For details of this UI, we have conducted targeted reviews. Interested friends can click the link:

The unlocking interface can be unlocked from the bottom by sliding a circle, and you can quickly enter the camera by sliding to the top

Long press the home key to enter the multi task management. The multi task manager uses the card design. Pull up to close the current task, and support one click cleaning background tasks

The drop-down bar of the nubia UI is special. The shortcut switch is at the bottom with backlight adjustment

The system adopts white color matching and flat UI, and the menu content is displayed in two columns. This design has also been seen in X6 and Z7, while in Z7 mini, it is a general phone layout

Z7 Max's somatosensory action is quite unique. In addition to the common double click bright screen on mobile phones, there is a special way of locking the screen with palm lock. We have seen double click lock screen and double click home key lock screen on other products. Nubia is also an innovation in somatosensory action

Z7 Max also supports split screen mode. It supports opening two applications on the same screen at the same time

performance

The SoC used by Z7 Max is Qualcomm's flagship chip Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AC, which uses four core Krait 400 2.5GHz, Adreno 330 @ 578MHz,2G Ram+32G Rom, The overall configuration belongs to the current high-end level. How about its performance? Let's have a look:

Let's take a look at the configuration of Z7 Max, four core Krait 400 2.5GHz

The memory of Z7 Max is 2G in total, and 605MB is available when starting up. It can be seen that the nubia UI still consumes memory

32G Rom for fuselage, nearly 24G usable

In the theoretical score running phase, we use Anthare's latest V5 beta1 to test, and the score of Z7 Max is 32511. It can be seen that both CPU and GPU have frequency reduction

GFXBench test shows that the frame number is also low, and it is estimated that the frequency is also reduced

A1 SD Bench 2.1, Z7 Max has a reading speed of 135MB/s, and uses eMMC 4.5 flash memory

In the game test, we used Modern War 5 and Real Car 3 to test the performance of the Z7 Max and check the number of frames.

Modern Warfare 5 is a game with the highest lock at 30 frames. The frame number of Z7 Max fluctuates between 19 and 27 frames

Real Racing 3 is also a famous large-scale game. Z7 Max has 22~30 frames in this game

From the above two games, the frame number of the Z7 Max is not high. We detected the CPU and GPU frequency of the Z7 Max through Qualcomm's official tool trepn, and found that the CPU and GPU frequency of the Z7 Max was reduced during the game. For the control of power consumption and temperature, it is inevitable to reduce the CPU frequency in the game. However, such a low GPU frequency will have a direct impact on the number of game frames. I hope this problem can be well optimized in the future firmware

photograph

Taking photos has always been a feature of Nubia series products. Nubia has pioneered the functions of focusing, metering and separation, independent white balance and so on on mobile phones, which has added many photo taking functions that can only be seen on professional cameras. The Z7 Max uses the new NeoVision 4.0 to take photos and adds many new features. From the view of the photographing interface, it is not very different from the previous version. There are three shortcut modes to switch in the upper right corner

We switch to the professional mode, turn on the auxiliary line, compass level, independent white balance, etc., and you can see the following view taking interface that looks very professional and has a "forced grid". We can't find these auxiliary functions on other mobile phones

Independent white balance adjustment is Nubia's original function. The above is its schematic diagram. When we adjust the white balance of the adjacent leaves (the diamond box in the figure), the color of the picture is like this.

If we adjust the white balance of petals, it is obvious that the color of the picture has changed significantly. We can adjust the white balance of specific scenes conveniently and quickly.

NeoVision 4.0 supports manual focusing. You can adjust the focus through the digital slider on the right, but this is not very friendly. It may be more convenient if there is a more intuitive scroll bar.

The above sample is shot by manual focusing in combination with independent metering and white balance. It can be seen that the macro performance of Z7 Max is really good, and its sharpness is quite high.

In addition, the Z7 Max also supports the depth of field prediction function, which is somewhat similar to the peak focus on the camera. This function is also very helpful for shooting. However, when the manual focus is turned on, this practical function disappears. In fact, the manual focus needs more auxiliary focus functions than the automatic focus.

The sample above is Z7 Max's imaging in daylight

This is the imaging effect after HDR is turned on. It can be seen that the overall dark details have been greatly improved, compared with the normal shooting, but the effect is slightly exaggerated.

Z7 Max uses Sony's second-generation stacked IMX214 sensor. We use the previous generation flagship product Z5Sn (IMX135, with optical anti shake) as a comparison:

Z5Sn sample

Central imaging

Edge imaging

From the comparison between the two, the analytical power of Z7 Max and Z5Sn under daylight imaging is equivalent, while in the image quality of the right edge of the picture, Z5Sn has obvious blurring, and Z7 Max is still clear. The overall picture quality of the Z7 Max is better than that of the previous generation flagship product Z5Sn without optical anti shake. It can be seen that the IMX214 is indeed much better than previous sensors. The colors of the two are quite different in style. The Z7 Max is more loyal to the real situation, while the Z5Sn is obviously high in color saturation. Of course, the two are not absolutely good or bad. As for the Z7 Max's photos, we only show some of its enhanced functions and better image quality compared with the previous generation products. Due to environmental constraints, we can't test the new nebula and orbit modes in Fun mode for the time being.

network

A major feature of the Z7 series is that it supports dual card dual standby and supports all domestic network systems. In other words, it can "take all" the 2G, 3G and even 4G networks of China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom. Let's also experience its support for dual cards.

Insert two Unicom cards at the same time, one of which is 4G (card 2) and the other is 3G (card 1). You can open and close the two cards at will, and select which card is used as the data network card

Card 1 acts as the network access card, card 2 becomes the GSM network, and card 1 uses HSPA, that is, 3G network, to access the Internet

The card serves as the network access card. Card 1 becomes a GSM network, and card 2 uses LTE, that is, 4G network, to access the Internet

summary

From the perspective of hardware configuration, the Z7 Max belongs to the flagship level of current mobile phones. The SoC MSM8974AC has brought strong power to it. However, because the kernel is relatively conservative in frequency regulation, there is still much room for performance optimization. From the actual experience of Z7 Max, we can see that it has its own characteristics in terms of system, photography, etc. Nubia UI is doing better and better in functionality and system interaction, and NeoVision's innovation in function is full of surprises to us every time. From the perspective of Z7 Max's photographic quality, the IMX214 sensor has indeed brought about visible image quality improvement, and it is believed that the Z7 with optical anti shake will go further. The Z7 Max also has the "killer card" function of the Z7 series, which is very convenient for many users with multiple SIM cards. On the Z7 Max, you can simply plug in the card without considering the network mode, and experience the high-speed network experience brought by 4G.
