The license plate of Xiaomi Box was finalized: cooperation with CNTV is the first choice for trial sale in East China

[TechWeb Report] On January 28, Millet box The issue of license plate finally settled. This morning, Xiaomi Box and Future TV, a subsidiary of CNTV (China Network Television), announced a three-year cooperation. Xiaomi Box will access the integrated broadcast control platform of China Internet TV operated by Future TV, and provide services to users through the latter. After the official approval of the competent department, Millet Box will be marketed in the pilot areas of Shanghai, Hangzhou and Changsha.

Through this cooperation, Xiaomi Box will be connected to the integrated broadcast control platform of China Internet TV operated by Future TV, including program integration and broadcast control, EPG management system, client management system, user management system, billing authentication system, etc. All will be managed by Future TV, and Xiaomi Box will provide services to users through the integrated broadcast control platform of China Internet TV. This is the first time that Xiaomi has officially cooperated with the Internet TV integrated broadcast and control platform. After the official approval of the competent department, Xiaomi Box will be listed in the pilot areas of Shanghai, Hangzhou and Changsha. It is reported that before the Spring Festival, Millet Box will resume its service.

Future TV Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of CNTV, which operates Internet TV business. On March 24, 2010, CNTV was the first to obtain an Internet TV license issued by the SARFT, and on June 23, 2010, it was the first to pass the acceptance of the SARFT Internet TV integrated broadcast control platform. On December 2, 2011, Future TV Co., Ltd. was officially incorporated to expand its Internet TV business in the national and overseas markets. Up to now, it has covered tens of millions of users and cooperated with TCL, Hisense, Konka, LG, Hualu, Easyten, LeTV and other companies.

The millet box released in November 2012 failed to operate and sell normally due to license problems. According to the requirements for the operation and management of institutions with Internet TV licenses issued by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television in 2011 (known in the industry as No. 181), set-top box products can only cooperate with content websites with Internet TV licenses, and set-top boxes "cannot directly provide content on the public Internet to users".

The requirements clearly point out that the Internet TV terminal products selected by the Internet TV integration organization for cooperation can only be connected to the Internet TV integration platform, and the terminal products shall not have other access to the Internet, and shall not be connected to the relevant management systems and data bases of network operators.

There are only seven platforms that have passed the acceptance of SARFT in China, namely CNTV, BesTV, Southern Media, Huashu, CIBN of China International Radio and Television, Hunan Radio and Television, and CNBN of China Central People's Radio and Television Network. Previously, Xiaomi Box operated under the license of Huashu, but it was reported that Huashu did not endorse Xiaomi Box because of the Internet content problems involved in the former.

In addition, according to the current regulations of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, the Internet TV platform implements the dual license control of "content service+integrated business". When the integrated license agency selects the terminal products (including all-in-one machines and set-top boxes) to cooperate with, it needs to submit the client number application in advance. The SARFT will issue number segments according to the numbering rules of unified distribution, batch authorization, one machine, one number, etc., and then the license agency can produce and sell terminals within the range of number segments. This also means that the millet box not only needs to broadcast content through the platform of the seven licensors mentioned above, but also has a client number, both of which are indispensable.
