As we all know, OLED screens are self luminous pixels without backlight. When displaying black, pixels do not emit light at all, and the contrast tends to be infinite, so each pixel can display its own brightness, thus increasing the contrast and authenticity of the picture, as well as the sharp contrast between dark and bright parts of the picture. However, it may also lead to some problems, that is, pixels will age to varying degrees, becoming dark, yellow, and not bright at the beginning. Frequently lit or high brightness pixels will age faster, while infrequently lit pixels will not age so quickly.

AMOLED life

The main reason why Samsung does not use the pentile RGB pixel arrangement at high resolution is that once it is higher than 230PPI, the life of Surer AMOLED with RGB arrangement cannot be guaranteed. Officially, the service life of AMOLED has now evolved to about 30000 hours. Super AMOLED products can reach 60000 hours, which is not far from the 100000 hours of CRT. The life definition of AMOLED does not mean that it can no longer work after reaching X hours, but that the maximum brightness attenuation after reaching X hours is about 80% of the initial value. And the test conditions of this data are measured when the maximum brightness is white. The loss of brightness is gradually darkening over a long period of time.

But how is it actually used? At present, a large number of AMOLED screens have more or less dark lines, burning screens, and black spots. AMOLED will age asynchronously because of its imaging self illumination, which is different from the principle of LCD backlight. The backlight of the LCD is aging synchronously, so eventually the AMOLED will burn the screen and the LCD will turn yellow, which means that if the display displays a static image for a long time, it will leave a shadow and it is irreversible. Take the aging of the Super AMOLED screen of the counter display machine as an example, the brightness is maintained above medium, the same picture is displayed (the luminous condition of each pixel has been fixed) for 8 hours every day, and some machines will have slight screen burning after continuous operation for more than 2 months.
