Recently, Professor Cynthia Breazeal of MIT Media Lab created a new product called Jibo（ Hey, don't misspell! ）The robot of Jibo launched a crowdfunding project. Jibo is small and cute, and it can do whatever the maid can do（ I mean, housekeeping ）。
Jibo is about 11 inches tall and weighs 6 pounds. It is mainly composed of a rotating display screen and a shaftless base. It also has a camera with the function of tracking the movement track of human face, which is used to track the owner's trace.
In the display video of Jibo robot, it can remind the owner of SMS notification, tell stories to bear children, connect household equipment and even order meals for the owner. Maybe it sounds like some science fiction avant-garde, but Breezeya said that these functions are not important.
What can little Jibo do?
In her research, Breezeya answered how to design robots to coexist with people and how to make these robots truly produce social value.
Usually, robots are specially designed by computer scientists, while Jibo is for getting into the homes of ordinary people.
Breezeya believes that Jibo will play a role in education and medical care. For example, Jibo can act as a personal assistant, a personal health doctor or a personal tutor in a company with scarce human resources. Jibo can manage the home life independently, so that the owner has more time to accompany his family, rather than letting the owner worry about the operation of Jibo.
Due to the current changes in mobile computer processing technology, the development of social robots is also a general trend. With the development of battery technology, speech recognition, visual computing and other technologies, Jibo's launch can be accepted by the public.
Breezeya stressed: "My design philosophy is not to let robots blindly meet people's various requirements, nor simply help people complete tasks, but to make people's lives more harmonious and help people complete tasks. We should understand that technology that conforms to human values and social laws is truly meaningful technology.
