Comparison and evaluation of screen effect of HTC One Galaxy S4 Xperia Z
Comparison and evaluation of screen effect of HTC One Galaxy S4 Xperia Z

We use mobile phones every day, no matter what we do, we must face the fact that we have to face the screen of mobile phones. Of course, a ridiculous nonsense is indeed a necessary condition for us to use mobile phones at ordinary times, and the screen of mobile phones is the facade of a mobile phone just like the face.

Parameter comparison

Nowadays, many mobile phones are upgraded or upgraded mainly by upgrading the screen. In the way of upgrading the screen, changing the screen material is the most popular. A good screen material can not only stand out from many models, but also make us pleasing to the eyes. The following is a comparison of the parameters involved in this machine (HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4, SONY Xperia Z).

From the official data in the figure above, we can see that if you are not a computer user every day, you do not know what he is talking about. The combination of numbers and letters is like a celestial book.

However, with the continuous innovation of mobile phone screens, their pixel density and expansion technologies are emerging in endlessly. How about the real performance of these three handsets? We will wait and see.

SRGB gamut test

This section was temporarily added under unexpected circumstances. By chance, the author had a friend who was engaged in scientific research. There was something like a color calibrator in the laboratory. The author asked him to help me produce three test charts for testing SRGB.

SRGB (standard Red Green Blue) is a color language protocol jointly developed by Microsoft, Epson, HP and other image giants. It provides a standard method to define colors, so that various computer external devices such as display, printing and scanning have a common language for colors with application software. SRGB is the best way to determine the quality of the screen.

Because many people may not understand the color gamut diagram, the author briefly introduces that the white triangle represents the color gamut measured by the color calibrator, while the dark triangle represents the inherent color gamut of SRGB. It is emphasized here that the larger the color gamut area is, the better it is. The larger the color gamut area is, the more likely it is to represent the color loss accuracy, and the white triangle that can be closer to the dark triangle is the most ideal test value.

From the above figure, we can see that the display gamut of the current mobile phone screen can already cover the color gamut of sRGB. The color gamut of HTC One almost completely coincides with the SRGB color gamut, which means that the display color of HTC One is the most accurate; Samsung Galaxy S4 has the widest color gamut, but we all know that Amoled is characterized by incomparably bright colors, too bright colors are relatively inaccurate. We know that the perceived color gamut of the human eye is far beyond the SRGB color gamut. The reason why SRGB mode is defined is that it is more suitable for the human eye to watch, and can make the human eye get more comfortable effects; In SONY Xperia Z's test, it is relatively moderate. The blue and red are relatively within the range, while the yellow part is slightly inferior.

Human test

The above professional test is believed that many people do not fully understand it. After all, it is relatively ethereal. In fact, the author never believes in machines, but only his own eyes. I will use the most intuitive and normal method to compare the screen of HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4 and Sony Xperia Z.

Test environment: In the room without any light, there is no self luminous object except the mobile phone, and there is no reflective light condition in the room.

Photo method: tripod+Canon 60D fixed point shooting. The shooting angles are vertical shooting, front 45 ° shooting, rear 45 ° shooting, left 45 ° shooting, right 45 ° shooting, and various representative photos are taken respectively. In order to completely get rid of the problem caused by shaking hands, this shooting is all shot on the shutter line.

All the above are RGB solid colors. Since the RGB component is assigned an intensity value in the range of 0~255, R (255, 0, 0), G (0255, 0), B (0, 0255), white (255255255), black (0, 0, 0).

Among the white displays, Sony Xperia Z is the best, and the white screen is the most pure. However, the criticism is also the biggest. Most people on the network say that the screen of Xperia Z is very white; The Samsung Galaxy S4 is the most dim because its screen brightness is only 287 cd/m2; The performance of HTC One was within my expectation.

In the black test, the Super Amoled HD screen of the Samsung Galaxy S4 stood out, and won the HTC One and SONY Xperia Z by virtue of the black non luminous OLED advantage.

In the RGB test of the three machines, the color of HTC One is the most positive. The Samsung Galaxy S4 screen is generally dark due to the brightness defect, while the SONY Xperia Z screen is relatively white. The author also found this in daily use.

In terms of image test, we selected 7 most popular pictures in the computer industry as the test. Of course, these pictures are very representative.

Through the above picture test, we can see the same results as RGB test. HTC One ranks first in brightness, contrast and saturation. The brightness of Samsung Galaxy S4 is still the biggest problem, while the whitening problem of SONY Xperia Z is worth correcting.

In terms of visual angle, the three machines are all very good. I won't say more about the same question here. Through your eyes, you will get a satisfactory answer.

In terms of detail performance, HTC One is totally superior to the two machines by virtue of its 468ppi ultra-high precision. Of course, after Apple launched the retina screen, it is not new for everyone to compete for PPI. However, the author found in use that it is difficult for us to directly distinguish the accuracy of the three machines with our naked eyes. In this age of blindly rising accuracy, what benefits can high-precision mobile phone screens bring to us in addition to satisfying users' desire for parameters?

Full text summary

HTC One relies on the SLCD 3rd generation display screen and the extreme 468PPI precision, which can be said to be ideal in terms of color gamut, saturation, contrast and brightness. This result also achieves the best fact of HTC One screen; The Galaxy S4 screen is extremely dim due to its low maximum brightness, but its color is relatively bright due to the wide color gamut of the Super AMOLED HD screen; However, Sony Xperia Z's flagship Bravia Engine2 cannot turn the tide because its screen is too white. Of course, due to various reasons, this is only the result of the test, which can only be used as a reference for your purchase. But after reading the author's evaluation, have you changed your original intention?
