Nvidia says Tegra5 will outperform PS3 and Xbox 360

Nvidia Tony Tamasi, senior vice president of Nvidia, recently said that Nvidia's next generation mobile phone GPU will outperform the PS3 and Xbox 360. At present, the performance of the PS3 and Xbox 360 is indeed somewhat outdated. After all, they are products many years ago, and their floating point performance is only 200GFlops. Nvidia's latest flagship GeForce Titan on the PC platform has reached 4.5TFlops, and the next generation PS4 will also reach 1.8TFlops.

At present, Tegra4's floating point performance is 80 Flops. Although Tegra4's performance still lags behind that of the PS3 and Xbox 360, mobile chips are developing very fast. The floating point performance of the previous generation of Tegra3 is only 12 GFflops, more than six times that of the previous generation.

However, the performance improvement of mobile chips will also bring about the problem of cell phone battery life. Maybe Tegra 5 will not be used on mobile phones, but at least Tegra 5 will be used on tablets.
