Before the test of E7, our impression of Jinli, like many readers, was still in the impression of the bombardment of TV shopping and low-end mobile phones. Prior to E7, Jinli had never created a flagship mobile phone product that was worthy of the name in terms of hardware specifications. For a mobile phone enterprise that has long relied on channel dealers, low prices and low-end exports, it needs some courage to make products like E7, which is also the only way to improve the enterprise and brand image. It is the representative product of many domestic mobile phone brands that "de low-end".

Hardware configuration, appearance design and workmanship

E7 is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series MSM8974AC four core Krait processor, with the main frequency of 2.2GHz, 28nm process, and built-in Adreno330 graphics unit. The new processor naturally supports Bluetooth 4.0, 5G WiFi, NFC, fast charging and other features. 3GB memory is the limit of the current mobile phone configuration, in fact, it is also the limit of the memory addressing capability of 32-bit Android system. Although the Linux kernel has a large memory addressing capability [LBA] under 32-bit, it has not yet been supported. E7 has 16GB and 32GB built-in storage options, does not support MicroSD card expansion, and is divided into WCDMA and TD-LTE versions that support China Unicom. Mobile 4G models are naturally more expensive, and will be launched later. The E7 basically reaches the top configuration of smart phones at present, and 3000 yuan is a relatively scientific and reasonable price.

The E7 has a strong appearance. It is reasonable to say that the integrated body shell frame and the full fitting screen glass process have reached a higher level among domestic mobile phone products. The conventional disassembly method is easy to lead to the scrapping or repair of mobile phones. It is understandable that the 1/2.3 inch large bottom camera makes the lens slightly prominent, while the starlight paint on the shell greatly reduces the visual effect. Of course, there are consumers who like this style. In addition to color, the workmanship of E7 is at a good level among domestic brands. However, for a flagship smart phone, such color and texture are slightly inconsistent.

Screen and operation

The E7 screen reaches 5.5 inches, and the resolution is also the most mainstream 1080p [1920x1080 pixels] level at present. The panel comes from the LTPS technology of JDI. The 6.1 inch 2560x1440 pixel IZGO satellite advertised two months ago is slightly higher. On the new generation Nexus 7, we have learned that LTPS has extremely high technical indicators in terms of brightness and contrast. It seems luxurious to use it on a low-cost tablet. However, when the pixel density is increased from 300 ppi to 403 ppi of E7, the brightness indicators have decreased, but the contrast performance remains excellent. E7 supports ultra sensitive touch technology, and the system is turned off by default. It is necessary to turn it on when it is used outdoors in cold weather in the north, and the screen performance of E7 is also good in terms of refresh rate.

System experience

E7 runs the Jinli Amigo2 interface customized based on the Android 4.2 system. The UI style is naturally flat and popular at present, and the color is bright and bright, younger. This simple style deserves praise. But after we entered the system, we felt a little surprise. The desktop and system animation almost returned to the Android era of HTC HD2. The gradual animation of desktop dragging and setting menus was severely stuck. It must be difficult to achieve such a high level of hardware configuration... Of course, we have engineering prototypes, but we have upgraded to the latest 1.2 firmware, There is no obvious improvement. The main reason for Carton is that there are too many desktop special effects, such as iOS wallpaper frosted glass special effects, WP8 flexible menus, etc... It is hard to understand the Android system with poor 2D display efficiency even if it is powerful, such as the i7 processor. But the solution is also simple: install Xiaomi desktop.

Amigo2 lock screen interface is sliding and has some simple functions. The left page is a news update similar to a magnet, and the right page can quickly open the camera and flashlight under the lock screen interface, which can quickly take out the mobile phone to deal with snapshots or a dark situation. The system settings, drop-down menu notice bar and other functions refer to the popular MIUI in China. Therefore, installing Xiaomi desktop on E7 can not only make the system more smooth, but also avoid any conflict in operation and appearance. However, when using a non default interface, there will be a NAVI desktop option in the quick switch of E7. If you accidentally press it, it will be forced to set as the system default interface, which must be reset in the application management...... The web browser performs smoothly, and has practical full screen and close functions.

E7 has intelligent control functions such as double click on the bright screen, body sense answering, which is a new direction of the development of domestic mobile phone systems, and of course, it objectively shows the lack of effective protection of software patents in China. Amigo system also has some special voice command functions, such as opening screen and unlocking through calling, shutter operation, etc., but voice command recognition is easy to fail within a certain distance, and it is also unable to recognize Cantonese or other dialects... It is not practical in daily life. E7 has retained Google Play and other related account service functions. Users who like Google native applications can download and install them by themselves, while the cloud service provided by Jinli focuses more on functions such as SMS backup that domestic consumers care more about, and reminders of small tools such as calendars are more grounded [reminders of buying tickets for hot trains, etc.]. The SMS interface also distinguishes between service SMS and contact SMS, The photo atlas can be classified by time and place, which is more humanized.

Theoretical performance and game experience

Since the increased running memory will not be reflected in memory performance in most cases, the theoretical test of processor and graphics performance of Jinli E7 and Nexus 5 There is no difference between Xperia Z1 and other models, and naturally it cannot be reflected in daily applications. 2GB of memory has been left for Android, and more available memory may meet some people's visual needs, which is more symbolic than practical. Because the actual running frequency of the MSM8974 processor of E7 is 2.15GHz, the running score will be lower than that of Xperia Z1. In terms of 3D game performance, Xperia Z1, which is almost the same as the processor and system, has no obvious difference, but the external sound is brighter, and the screen color is also obviously better.

Audio visual experience

On Sony Xperia Z1, we have experienced the video decoding capability of Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, including ultra-high definition and high bit rate video with a high 2160p resolution and 30FPS frame rate. Theoretically, E7 should have no difference, and the screen should be better and the effect should be better... But the actual performance is somewhat unexpected, perhaps because of the engineering machine, The system decoding performance of E7 is not stable... whether MPEG4 X264 or MOV packaged high-definition video can not be decoded normally, it will skip in fast forward mode, even if a third-party MX player is installed, it can not play normally. While online video applications such as Youku still have the same results... Of course, this should be a bug of engineering machines, which will not appear in the listed products.

The design of E7 built-in player is relatively simple, which is divided into online and local parts. The locally supported format does not include APE or FLAC, and MP3, WAV and other common formats are OK. It can match lyrics online, but it seems that the accuracy is not very high. The function is very simple. There are small bugs. Sometimes the database information cannot be refreshed immediately after importing music.

Noise

The main focus is shooting and imaging, but the sound quality is not mentioned much. It uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. Our previous tests show that Qualcomm's 4-core processors, including the 800, no longer have SRCs, which means that very bad conditions are unlikely to occur. We didn't disassemble E7 and didn't find its CODEC data, but we checked the configuration of some models. Most CODECs matched with Snapdragon 800 are WCD9320, and E7 may also be this one. At the maximum volume, the left channel overflows slightly. Like the Nexus 5 test, this situation is caused by the left channel overflow, which is about - 20dB before returning to normal. This may be a design defect of WCD9320, which may affect all mobile phones using WCD9320. Another problem should not be related to the WCD9320. The left channel of E7 has very slight impulse noise.

The actual listening performance is also relatively general. The neutral sound of boiled water has limited influence on the actual listening. The medium and high frequency resolution is not very good, but not bad. It is suitable for listening in a low voice. When the volume is high, it is easy to have insufficient low-frequency control, and low-frequency is prone to turbidity. Try to match it with low impedance, medium and high sensitivity earphones, and try not to use the maximum volume output, so as to obtain relatively ideal sound quality performance. E7 has built-in DTS sound effects, which have no practical effect.

Photo application and camera image quality

E7 has developed a shooting software. The main interface is very simple. The setting interface looks professional, but more like the player interface. In addition to the common functions, there are no more options. For example, OV16820/OV16825 supports RAW export. This APP does not support RAW export. The white balance options are not rich enough. The step range of exposure compensation is too large. There is still much room for upgrading and the operation is not as convenient as that of Camera FV5. Video can be shot up to 1080P. In fact, OV16820/OV16825 can support 60FPS shooting up to 2K/4K. This software works without flashback. It is stronger than Galaxy S4, but has many bugs.

At present, among the mobile phones on sale, Lumia 1020 has the highest size specification, which is 2/3 inch, and then 1/2.3 inch. At present, except for E7, only Sony Xperia Z1 has the smallest size, Lumia 1520, which is 1/2.5 inch. The mainstream mobile phone sensor specification is 1/3.2 inch, and the E7 sensor specification is far higher than the mainstream level. But the Z1 we tested earlier is also like this. The real performance is very bad. Although the bottom is important, the bottom theory is not feasible.

Z1 adopts the sensor made by Sony, which is not available to the public at present, so Jinli can only purchase sensors from other manufacturers. We searched the relevant information. The sensor of E7 should be the OV16820 or OV16825 of OmniVision. The two parameters are the same, that is, the packaging method is different, 1/2.3 inch, the pixel size is 1.34 microns, and the structure is backlight. The actual focal length of the lens is 4.88mm, equivalent to about 28mm, and the aperture is F2.2. It has a very good anti glare ability. Even facing the strong light, the picture atomization degree is within a reasonable range. The central sharpness of the lens is good, and the edge part has declined, but it is not unacceptable. The overall quality is better than that of the Z1 G lens.

There is no problem with the focusing accuracy of E7. Although it is not fast enough, the focusing success rate is high, so the overall output rate is good. In the weak light environment, the focusing speed will decline, which is an inevitable phenomenon of contrast focusing, but it is rare that out of focus occurs. However, the flash function is basically useless, the synchronization time is not correct, and the metering is not adjusted for the flash, which results in a lot of problems.

The color of E7 is neutral and cold, and the red saturation is insufficient. When it displays a large area of red, there will be an obvious purple problem. Blue, green and yellow are relatively good. The performance of metal and other materials is good [in the mobile phone category], but the metering is easy to overflow, which requires manual intervention during metering. The expression of dark details is general, and the phenomenon of dead darkness will appear. The color expression of E7 is excellent in mobile phones, but there is still room to adjust the color style, which can be adjusted more pleasing to the eye. Although the weak light shooting ability is not particularly outstanding, and the dark part is heavily smeared, it can also be called excellent. The usable sensitivity can reach above ISO400, and ISO800 is also feasible as a recording shooting. Although the automatic white balance of E7 is basically stable, the white balance presets are embarrassing. In many cases, we need to manually set the white balance presets to achieve better results. However, when using the preset values, color abnormalities may occur for unknown reasons.

Is the performance of E7 really "one year ahead"? We think that the performance of the E7 is better than that of the Z1, but the gap is not generally large compared with that of the Lumia 1020. Compared with the Samsung Galaxy S4, the E7 has certain advantages in weak light environment, but not necessarily in strong light. What Jinli provides us is an engineering machine. Some of these bugs may not exist in the formal mass production machine, but we can't confirm them. We can only write them out at once. We hope Jinli can solve them quickly. These bugs are not hard injuries, but annoying enough. The camera hardware of E7 has no major problems, and its image quality performance is significantly better than that of Sony Z1, which is worth showing off for Jinli. The performance is indeed relatively excellent, in line with expectations, but it does not meet the expectations of "one year ahead". Judging from our experience, E7 still has much room for improvement through software and algorithm improvement.

Voice call and noise reduction

Although the built-in 4G LTE baseband MSM8974AC processor is used, the E7 only supports GSM and China Unicom WCDMA network systems. The E7L supporting TD-LTE is a little more expensive, so we have no opportunity to experience the Internet and voice calls under 4G networks. The E7 runs Amigo 2.0 system based on Android customized interface, and there are many call settings, but there are no options related to call noise reduction. The signal performance of E7 is good. In the elevator room of Huilongguan Peak with poor signal, E7 can also have 1-3 3G signals, which can maintain the Internet access.

Although there is a gap in the noise reduction performance between the indicators and those of the Nexus 5 and L39h processor models, considering that the voice input gain of E7 is much higher than them, 6dB can be heard from the listener. At present, there is a lack of disassembly information of E7 on the Internet, and it is not clear whether Audio's voice processing IC is built-in. The noise reduction processing style of the E7 is similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S4 i9500, which emphasizes volume, but has a higher index. In our evaluation of domestic mobile phones, the call noise reduction is at the best level, which is also a small surprise brought to us by the E7 behind the camera.

The plastic shell of E7 may be disliked by many people, but it also has advantages. For example, in winter, the plastic shell is less likely to affect the system and battery than the metal shell. The battery can also work normally in the subzero temperature environment. Of course, the quality of the battery is also an important factor. With the screen off and point saving function of the system, various data connections and synchronization can be automatically turned off after the screen is turned off. Compared with ordinary mobile phones, the power consumption of mobile phones is significantly reduced when they are used outside.

From the perspective of picture quality, signal and call quality standards, Jinli's E7 performance is indeed commendable, but we also encountered many embarrassing problems on the prototype sent for testing. Of course, it is normal that engineering machines do have many inexplicable BUGs. Theoretically, these problems should not appear in official retail products. Undeterred consumers can conduct simple tests on flash, video playback and other functions to verify before purchasing.

In the eyes of many people, Jinli is just a low-end brand, but the hardware configuration of E7 is absolutely flagship in any major mobile phone brand. The 32GB version sells at 3199 yuan, which is reasonable. However, the strong business style and young bright system colors are off the line. Amigo2 system provides many practical and humanized functions, but there are also some things that are not practical. Jinli should carefully consider the design orientation of products and systems and properly simplify them, rather than blindly pursuing high and comprehensive design.

Many domestic manufacturers try to break away from low-end brand image by focusing on mobile phone photography, but we see more commercial propaganda and bragging without technical content. At present, Jinli has gone the furthest and the most realistic in terms of camera hardware in China. Taking photos is one of the best in domestic mobile phones. Compared with Samsung's Galaxy S4, Jinli has won or lost. There is still much room for progress in color and algorithm control. We hope that Jinli can stick to it, tap the potential of this camera or be more bold in technology, and effectively transform the "big bottom" advantage into a brand image.
