HTC Butterfly S is HTC's second flagship model this year. As an upgrade of HTC Butterfly last year, HTC Butterfly S has various new features and capabilities of HTC One, and continues HTC Butterfly in design language. Parameter comparison:
In terms of parameter comparison, the hardware configuration of HTC Butterfly S has improved a level compared with HTC Butterfly. At the same time, HTC One, that is, HTC, has added a series of new features, such as the 4 megapixel UltraPixel camera technology and BoomSound dual speakers and other hardware improvements. However, it is a pity that HTC Butterfly S cancels HTC Butterfly's favorite waterproof function and increases the battery capacity. The battery of HTC Butterfly S has reached 3200mAh, which is almost the largest machine on the author's hand. At the same time, the weight of 160g is a bit heavy.

As an upgraded version of HTC Butterfly, HTC Butterfly S continues to use the design language. A slight glance can not quickly discover the difference. During the use of the author for several days, few people found that the HTC Butterfly in the author's hands had been upgraded, if not specifically reminded.
The front of HTC Butterfly S and HTC Butterfly are black panels, and the three red backlight touch keys are quite conspicuous. A closer look shows that the HTC Butterfly S has a longer chin and a more slender overall proportion due to the addition of BoomSound dual speakers.
The same front camera in the upper right corner and the sensor position in the upper left corner remain unchanged.
HTC Butterfly S and the back of HTC Butterfly's fuselage are made of the same baking paint material, which is very cool in terms of visual effect. But one big problem is that it is very easy to scratch. You can see that the scratch marks on the back of the HTC Butterfly in the author's hands are very obvious. I don't know whether HTC Butterfly S has improved its technology, which still needs time to test.
It should be noted that since the BoomSound speaker is added to the HTC Butterfly S, the speaker below the back of the original HTC Butterfly has been removed.
Not only were the speakers on the back of HTC Butterfly removed, but a hidden LED signal light on the left side of the HTC Butterfly camera was also cancelled. To tell the truth, the author was really surprised by the cancellation of the LED signal light.
At the same time, by comparing the two butterfly cameras, we can find that the outer circle of the original HTC Butterfly camera is painted. So after a period of use and wear, the paint will fall off. The HTC Butterfly S seems to be of primary color, so the same problem should not occur.
From left to right on the top of the fuselage are noise reducing microphones, 3.5mm sockets, power keys and SIM card slots. There is not much difference in the arrangement design. HTC Butterfly S adds the infrared function of HTC One, and the power key is black and transparent.
At the same time, HTC Butterfly S has added a new memory card expansion, and the location of the memory card is the same as the SIM card slot.
At the bottom of the body are the same microUSB and microphone. However, HTC Butterfly S cancels the waterproof function of HTC Butterfly, so it is much easier to charge.
The design on both sides of the fuselage is exactly the same. The red decorative anti slip control on both sides and the concentric circle design of the volume key on the right are the same.
In terms of holding hand feel, the same back curve design of the two butterflies makes the holding hand feel very close to the hand and very comfortable. In contrast, the overall length of HTC Butterfly S is longer, and it feels better than HTC Butterfly in holding the center of gravity. At the same time, HTC Butterfly S weighs 22g more than HTC Butterfly, which makes me feel more comfortable for this heavy taste. However, some experienced people said that holding it for a long time is a little tired.
During the evaluation of HTC Butterfly, I once complained that the accessories attached are rather boring, and there is no standard headset. Maybe HTC heard it, so HTC Butterfly S is equipped with earphones as standard. Similarly, Beats has two kinds of butterflies. Whether you use headphones or not and whether you use this sound effect or not, it is better than not.
UI design:
In terms of UI design, HTC Butterfly has started to upgrade Sense 5, so it is not very different from HTC Butterfly S. Both butterflies are Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5. For the Sense interface of HTC, the author has quite a feeling. From the popularity of the WM era in the early days to the obesity of Sense 4, the author thinks that Snese 5 is the most concise and beautiful, and at the same time, it has a good balance between the smoothness and volume of the system.
The lock screen and the desktop have a strong smell of HTC.
The BlinkFeed launched by HTC is really not very useful. To be honest, for users who do not have the habit of RSS subscription, they will have the psychological reaction of wasting traffic. For the heavy RSS subscription habit of the author, they also dislike the freedom of source. HTC desktop supports various free customization and screen position movement.
Strangely, HTC Butterfly S does not have the drop-down shortcut key of HTC One in the Bank of China version, while Android 4.2.2's double finger drop-down is not absent.
HTC Sense 5's one second aging human-machine mode can select the nine grid arrangement and 4 * 5 arrangement. The author likes HTC's application list design, and can also see the time and weather in the application list.
The same viewfinder interface has little difference except that HTC Butterfly has no ZOE function due to hardware. There are also AE/AF locking and related functions. As a half HTC fan, the author does not like the shooting rhythm of HTC. Since the previous HTC One X was shot instantly, it gives the impression that the whole shooting was completed without focusing and other steps.
Screen:
The debut of HTC Butterfly was quite tough. As the pioneer of 1080P, it also used the new screen material SLCD 3, which made many screen controllers very happy. However, HTC Butterfly S has no specific improvement compared with the same 1080P and the same screen material SLCD3. However, I believe that most people have enough 1080P, although many 1600P devices have appeared.
The SLCD3 screen color restoration of HTC Butterfly S is quite good, and the high ppi brought by the 5-inch screen of 1080P also has quite good fineness. From the above picture, the color scale transition is quite smooth and the restoration is accurate.
The performance of color restoration, visual angle and diagonal is quite good.
Performance:
HTC Butterfly S uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad core processor, with a frequency of 1.9GHz. Compared with HTC Butterfly's APQ8064, HTC Butterfly S is a relatively mainstream SoC. Although HTC One also uses Snapdragon 600, HTC Butterfly S does have 1.7GHz. As of press release, the HTC Butterfly S in the author's hands has not been rooted, so there is a slight lack of performance testing.
Although AnTuTu's run points can't represent absolute performance, everyone runs regularly. HTC Butterfly S runs are divided into 2W5, meeting the standard of Snapdragon 600.
Vellamo, a software launched by QUALCOMM to test the HTML performance of mobile phones. HTC Butterfly S performed well in the test, and HTML5 scored 2613 (the reference model is LG Optimus G Pro: 2481)
The old GPU test software GLBenchmark 2.7 is also the standard of Snapdragon 600 in terms of score.
BaseMark X, the most rigorous test software now, uses the Unity 4.0 engine, which is quite a test for the GPU of mobile phones. The performance of HTC Butterfly S in this test is also the basic level of Snapdragon 600.
The performance of HTC Butterfly S in 3DMark is also at the level of Snapdragon 600.

Compared with HTC Butterfly's 8 million pixel BSI camera, HTC Butterfly S uses HTC's latest UltraPixel camera launched this year, with 4.3 million pixels. In the test of HTC Butterfly, we have said that the heating control of HTC Butterfly is relatively poor. In the software test and large-scale game operation, unlike the local heating of most mobile phones, the whole back of HTC Butterfly will heat up, and there is a trend to reduce the frequency. HTC Butterfly S inherits this shortcoming of HTC Butterfly very well. It may be that the thickness of HTC Butterfly S becomes thicker due to the addition of batteries, which is slower than HTC Butterfly in the case of overall heating.
When the indoor temperature is 25 °, the highest temperature on the back is about 41.5 °. If it runs continuously under high load, it can reach 46 °, and then frequency reduction will occur.
Power consumption:
One obvious upgrade of HTC Butterfly S is that it has upgraded from HTC Butterfly's 2020mAh battery to 3200mAh, which is basically the largest machine in the author's hands. Although it is slightly inferior to the two detachable 3140mAh models of LG Optimus G Pro, it can be charged once every two days.

HTC Butterfly S cancels the favorite waterproof function on HTC Butterfly, so the mirco USB port does not have a waterproof cover, which makes charging very comfortable. At the same time, it avoids the possibility of broken cups on HTC Butterfly, such as those of the author.
HTC Butterfly S also has BoomSound dual speakers, which HTC Butterfly does not have. BoomSound dual speakers make HTC Butterfly S quite impressive in the audio-visual experience, and its volume is quite loud. Mom will never have to worry about my missing calls again.
It should be noted that HTC Butterfly S has the same bright surface baking paint as HTC Butterfly S, and there is no data indicating that HTC has upgraded the baking paint of HTC Butterfly S for the time being. Therefore, it is recommended to turn over the buckle for placement in daily use to avoid scratches. In this case, the author can't understand why HTC canceled the back indicator light.

Compared with the advanced significance of HTC Butterfly's 1080P pioneer, HTC Butterfly S is more like the protection of keeping pace with HTC One. For those who do not like HTC One, screen size, body material and HTC Butterfly S can be selected. I think this is the original intention of HTC Butterfly S launched by HTC.
