What is OTA?
The full name of OTA is Over the Air Technology, that is, space download technology. OTA upgrade is a standard software upgrade method provided by Android system. It is powerful and easy to use. It supports a lossless upgrade system. It can automatically download OTA upgrade packages through the network (GSM, 3G, WIFI and even computer USB shared network). Some mobile phones also support OTA to download upgrade packages and then upgrade through SD card. One of the advantages of OTA is that there is no need to back up the data for the upgrade. After the upgrade is successful, all the data will be preserved intact.
OTA in Android phones can be easily found in settings, as shown in the figure below (the figure is the screenshot of Find 5) ▼
At this time, as long as we connect to the network, if there is a push update, we will receive a prompt (Butterfly on the left, Optimus G Pro on the right) ▼
Usually, the OTA update content is not too large, usually dozens of MB or even a few MB (Find 5) ▼
In the process of OTA, use the built-in Recovery to upgrade (Butterfly on the left, Find 5 on the right) ▼
After the upgrade, you can see the new version information in the system information ▼
OTA FAQs
The OTA fault of third-party recovery is flushed
The OTA of the mobile phone is actually upgraded by using the official recovery. If the third-party recovery is downloaded, when the OTA upgrade package is downloaded, it will automatically enter the third-party recovery, but the upgrade cannot be completed, as shown in the figure (the figure shows the third-party recovery Butterfly) ▼
At this time, it is necessary to re import the official Recovery to solve this problem. Here we use the prepackaged "one button Recovery" flash in (different models of mobile phones have different flash in methods) ▼
OTA fault after root
Many users who use Android phones need to obtain Root permission, so that they can make more customized and personalized modifications to their phones. However, many mobile phones also have problems after Root, which is reflected in the OTA upgrade process. This is because the OTA upgrade will verify the system files. In this case, an error similar to the one in the following figure will appear (Optimus G Pro on the left and Find 5 on the right) ▼
Since it is difficult to restore the root, the common practice is to re brush the official machine cleaning package. The following is an example ▼ of Find 5 re brushing the complete official machine cleaning package
The official recovery of many mobile phones does not have the ability of SD card swiping, so some models of mobile phones need to cooperate with the computer wire swiping system. Here we take LG's KDZ swiping as an example ▼
For some HTC mobile phones, if they have used third-party ROMs, the process of OTA is very cumbersome, because HTC mobile phones also involve an unlocking problem. If they have used the mobile phones, they need to be locked again, and then they need to go back to the official system.
