What is the difference between FDD-LTE and TD-LTE?

Yesterday, while China Mobile Hong Kong announced the FDD-LTE and TD-LTE integrated network, ZTE also demonstrated its mobile phone Grand Era LTE, portable wifiUFi MF83E and USB modem MF825 that can support both TD-LTE and FDD-LTE.

Grand Era LTE is a dual mode mobile phone that supports both TD-LTE and FDD-LTE, with a main frequency dual core 1.5Ghz processor, a 4.5 inch screen, an 8 megapixel camera, and an Android 4.0 system. In addition, ZTE's dual mode data card MF825 and UFi MF93E supporting TD-LTE and FDD-LTE also appeared. It is understood that ZTE Grand Era LTE will be released in the mainland market as soon as the third quarter of 2013.

At the same time, China Mobile announced that its TD-LTE network in Hong Kong was officially put into commercial use, which is the first TD-LTE network in Hong Kong and the first TD-LTE/FDD-LTE integrated network in the world.

I believe you are familiar with the words TD-LTE and FDD-LTE. But the connection between the two is really puzzling. What are the connections and differences between them?

one , the difference between the two

TD-LTE Time Division Long Term Evolution is the fourth generation (4G) mobile communication technology and standard jointly developed by Alcatel Lucent, Nokia Siemens Communications, Datang Telecom, Huawei Technologies, ZTE, China Mobile and other enterprises. TD-LTE is more a brand than TD-SCDMA. But with the continuous development, TD-LTE and TDD-LTE are basically equivalent.

FDD-LTE LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the evolution of 3G, usually called 3.9G, including TDD (Time Division Duplex) and FDD (Frequency Division Duplex) duplex modes. FDD is one of the two duplex modes supported by this technology. The LTE using FDD is FDD-LTE

At present, operators in most countries adopt the FDD-LTE model globally. Only CMCC in China and SoftBank Mobile in Japan announced the adoption of TD-LTE. And their terminals are not common. TDD and FDD have their own advantages. It cannot be said that TDD is better than FDD, but compared with FDD, TDD has the greatest advantage of flexible bandwidth allocation and high spectrum utilization (especially asymmetric services).

two , the connection between the two

In fact, both are duplex technologies used by mobile communication technology, which correspond to each other. TD-LTE is the LTE technology of TDD version, and FDD-LTE is the LTE technology of FDD version. FDD-LTE's standardization and industrial development are ahead of TDD-LTE due to the differences in wireless technology, different frequency bands and the interests of various manufacturers.
