Recently, a new type of Japan jointly developed by Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi It was unveiled at FPD International Expo 2012. The highlight of this display is that LCD display is as thin as paper, low energy consumption, and anti reflective. If any manufacturer wants to provide users with paper like backlight video experience, this is the most appropriate technology.
At the press conference, The Japanese exhibitors pointed out that the video screen contains two new technologies: one is a newly developed scattering layer to achieve optical optimization; A built-in circuit technology for displaying still pictures can reduce power consumption.
As for the first "newly developed scattering layer", also known as the "Light Control Layer", many LCD screens will reflect light, just like the colorful screen like the iPad, but with this scattering layer, it will automatically "collect" light, which looks like , which is impossible for ordinary LCD display.
The second function to reduce power consumption is also called "Memory in Pixels". The display screen has a built-in circuit that can read and retain signals. For example, when reading a static image, the data will be retained in time after loading, so as to save power consumption. According to them, this will save 3MW power consumption.
When will this product be available?
The Japanese exhibitors said that they would prepare two versions, one is low color purity (5% NTSC color gamut), and the other is high brightness (40% reflectivity); Another better color purity (36% NTSC color gamut); The first one will be put into production as soon as the manufacturer has a demand. The second one is that Japan hopes to do more research to ensure the perfect visual experience of high color gamut while increasing brightness.
In the past e-reader display production experience, It is one of the most important factors for equipment manufacturers, and Japan does a good job in this regard, which may bring some new innovations to ultra-thin display technology.
