Is mobile phone radiation harmful to human body

YouTube once spread such a popular video that several people surrounded their mobile phones in a circle, and then connected these calls. Soon the corn kernels placed in the middle of the mobile phones began to expand, and then became "popcorn". This video, while interesting, also conveys another horrible message, that the radiation from mobile phones has reached the level of microwave ovens. However, this video was proved to be a hoax, which made people more or less worried about mobile phone radiation.

First, let's talk about radiation. Radiation can be roughly divided into two categories, nuclear radiation and electromagnetic radiation. Nuclear radiation is the radiation generated by radioactive elements. It is the proton, neutron, helium nucleus, electron, photon and so on that carry high energy. The energy carried by nuclear radiation is higher than the chemical bond energy inside the molecule in the organism, so it can destroy the chemical bond in the human body, resulting in the change of molecular properties. In most cases, cells exposed to nuclear radiation will die due to damage, but it may also cause changes in human cell genes and produce cancer cells.

Electromagnetic radiation is obviously different from nuclear radiation. Electromagnetic radiation is the radiation of electromagnetic waves. Oscillating electric and magnetic fields spread in the form of waves in space to form electromagnetic waves. Visible light is an electromagnetic wave, as well as the x-rays, ultraviolet rays, infrared rays, microwaves and radio waves that we refer to everyday are all electromagnetic waves. In electromagnetic waves, some gamma rays, X-rays, ultraviolet rays and even short wave visible light with very short wavelengths carry energy higher than molecular chemical bond energy. These high-energy radiation can also damage molecules such as proteins and DNA like nuclear radiation. The energy of most visible light and infrared radiation, including mobile phone radiation, is smaller than the energy of intermolecular chemical bonds, so it is impossible for these low-energy radiation to damage the molecular structure, but if the intensity is high, it can also cause human burns.

WiFi wireless routers generally operate at 2.4GHz (or 5GHz), 3G networks operate at 1.7-2.4GHz, and mobile phone signals operate at 0.8-0.96GHz and 1.71-1.85GHz. In these frequency ranges, the harm of radiation to human body is thermal. Moreover, the penetration of these bands is weak. If you don't feel the skin heating, you don't need to worry about the damage caused by mobile phone radiation.

So from a physical point of view, the radiation of mobile phones is only low-energy radiation, and there is no energy that can destroy the molecular bond energy. So there is no need to worry about how much damage the mobile phones will cause cancer or your body. At best, it is to warm your face. Maybe a minute of sun exposure is more radiation than a lifetime of cell phone use.
