Graphene has always been a hero in the mobile phone industry! Because it is a very hard, thin and light material, it is used in various accessories of mobile phones, such as integrated circuits, Solar cell And supercapacitors, even mobile screen 。 It is composed of pure carbon, and the atoms are arranged in a hexagonal pattern similar to an atom thick graphite and sheet form. However, graphene is 300 times harder than steel.
Because of its thin and transparent nature, researchers at the University of California, Berkeley found that graphene is speaker Ideal material for diaphragm. In essence, the thinner and lighter the diaphragm material, the better the sound quality. But the fact is that the thinner the material, the more fragile it is. It is very difficult to make a diaphragm that produces good sound quality and is durable. Graphene is amazing!
So the researchers did a test. They used a graphene diaphragm with a diameter of 5mm to make a loudspeaker and a Sennheiser MX-400 earphones for performance comparison. The result is very satisfactory. Even without optimization, the speaker sound can produce excellent frequency response (20 Hz to 20 kHz) throughout the region, which is comparable to or superior to the performance of commercial peers with conventional design.
With such a result, it seems only a matter of time before graphene becomes the dominant material in the loudspeaker market. In addition, due to its small size, it is entirely possible for graphene speakers to be used in mobile phones.
