On June 16, it was announced that the first slim periscope continuous zoom module independently developed, designed and produced by the Precision Camera Technology Branch of the Central Research Institute of OphiLight had completed its first Demo demonstration and was officially launched.
This module has the characteristics of ultra-thin and continuous optical zoom at the same time. Its module thickness is only 5.9mm, which is thinner than the conventional design lens modules of many mobile phones. In the context of the current 5G mobile phones becoming heavier and heavier, it helps mobile phones to do thin and light to a certain extent.
At the same time, this module is composed of three groups called "1GMO6P", covering the equivalent focal length of 85~170mm, aperture f/3.1-f/5.1, which can enable the mobile phone to achieve high power continuous zoom and real-time focusing under high power zoom, and achieve more than twice the resolution ability and high image quality ability of high power continuous zoom within 3~7 times of the focal length. The movement of the mirror group is assisted by the long axis piezoelectric motor to improve the stability and accuracy of the mirror group movement.
Similar solutions were used in APEX 2020 by vivo this year, but the success of research and development by OphiLight, a supply chain manufacturer specializing in the development of mobile phone mirror sets, is obviously more significant for mass production in the future. In contrast, most of the periscope zoom schemes currently used in mobile phones on the market cover the telephoto image by the fixed focus lens+digital zoom, but the loss of image quality and resolution is especially obvious when the high magnification continuous zoom is used.
In addition, OFIG said that at present its project team can independently design and produce the periscope continuous zoom modules with different focus sections and zoom magnification, such as 3-5 times, 5-8 times, 3.5-9.5 times, which can meet different customer needs.
