What do you know about the "8064" of the four Vajra Qualcomm?

Xiaomi 2 has made us familiar with APQ8064, while the subsequent high-end series Snapdragon 600 still uses APQ8064T and APQ8064AB models, and the 2013 Nexus 7 has brought a new APQ8064 1AA. What's the difference between them?

Let's first look at the differences between the four members of the "8064 family". See the table for details:

It can be clearly seen from the table that APQ8064 and APQ8064 1AA belong to Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro series, and the frequency of CPU and GPU are the same, but actually they are very different. First of all, their CPU cores are different. The APQ8064 1AA uses the Krait 300 of the Snapdragon 600 series, and the APQ8064 1AA uses high-performance PCDDR3L-1600 memory, which can provide greater bandwidth. The APQ8064T and APQ8064AB, both belonging to the Snapdragon 600 series, use the Krait 300 core. The APQ8064AB is higher in CPU and GPU frequencies, and its memory is upgraded to LPDDR3.

APQ8064

When Xiaomi 2 was released in 2012, it was advertised that it was the first mobile phone in the world to use APQ8064 (the first one launched was Optimus G). At that time, people did not know much about this chip. It was also the first Qualcomm quad core SoC. Before that, the most high-end Qualcomm processor we had contacted was the MSM8960. Since the second half of 2012, more and more mobile phones have been equipped with APQ8064. Before the launch of Snapdragon 600, APQ8064 was the "royal" SoC for high-end mobile phones. Compared with SoC of other brands in the same period, the biggest advantage of APQ8064 is the GPU. Even now, Adreno 320 can still meet the requirements of most users. Adreno 320 has also dominated Android's strongest GPU for a long time. In terms of CPU performance, APQ8064 is not outstanding. It is weaker than the quad core Cortex-A9 core on the same frequency.

Representative models: Xiaomi 2, LG Optimus G, Google Nexus 4, HTC Butterfly, Sony L36h, OPPO Find5, nubia Z5, etc.

APQ8064T

APQ8064T is our most common Snapdragon 600 series SoC. It debuted on LG Optimus G Pro for the first time. Compared with APQ8064, the most important improvement of APQ8064T is in CPU. The architecture upgrade and CPU improvement make it have stronger performance, and the Krait 300 core of the same frequency can match Cortex-A9 in efficiency. At the same time, APQ8064 is still equipped with Adreno 320, but in the era of Snapdragon 600, there have been many 1080P products, and Adreno 320 is also somewhat powerless.

APQ8064AB

Compared with the general Snapdragon 600, the APQ8064AB can be described as a "full blood version". It is enhanced in CPU, GPU and memory, especially in GPU frequency, which is the highest in the whole "8064" family (the APQ8064AB is 450MHz, and the others are 400MHz). Of course, it is also rare. It first appeared on the LTE international version I9505 of the Galaxy S4. Due to the increase of GPU frequency, the devices using it are obviously better than those using Adreno in the game 320@400MHz The model is more smooth, but for the two devices equipped with it, the resolution is 1080P, so the game frame number is not good enough.

Representative models: Samsung Galaxy S4 (I9505), HTC Butterfly S

APQ8064 1AA

As the latest member of the "8064" series, APQ8064 1AA is also the most "wonderful" product, which is carried on the 2013 Nexus 7 just launched. When the new Nexus 7 was released, it was even officially declared as the Snapdragon S4 Pro. However, after disassembly, it was found that this SoC was not as simple as the ordinary APQ8064. It had similar characteristics to APQ8064AB, but its frequency was lower. Of course, the Nexus series cores have always been highly playable. Before the deadline, there were cores with CPU overclocking to 1.9Ghz and GPU overclocking to 487MHz. Therefore, we can exploit a lot of space for performance improvement on the new Nexus 7.

Finally, we put on the popular Antu rabbit evaluation score, and you can also see some differences between the four SoCs from the theoretical test:

The scores basically reflect the differences in the specifications of these chips, and the performance is APQ8064AB>APQ8064T>APQ8064 1AA>APQ8064 , which is also completely consistent with the theoretical parameters. With higher frequency and LPDDR3, APQ8064AB is undoubtedly the strongest among the four. In addition, the performance of the new Nexus 7 is amazing. Although the frequency is the same as 1.5GHz, the Krait 300 core and PCDDR3 memory are used, so the RAM performance and CPU floating point operation are significantly stronger than APQ8064.

PS: The RAM chip disassembly is too violent, so the photos of SoC are all from the network.
