Small transparent LG Fx0 Firefox mobile phone hands-on experience
Small transparent LG Fx0 Firefox mobile phone hands-on experience

On the stage of smart phones, Android and iOS are undoubtedly the two protagonists. Occasionally, Windows and BlackBerry come out on the stage to run errands. As for systems such as Tizen and Firefox, they are just kids waiting to play behind the stage. The latest action of Firefox is the LG Fx0 released in Japan, a transparent body, but the machine is not so transparent.

NTT Docomo The war between KDDI au and SoftBank has never stopped. In addition to Android smart phones, they have also made efforts to expand the mobile phones of other smart systems. A few days ago, Docomo also sent out a prototype machine that had canceled the listing plan and ran the Tizen system. The way au chose was Firefox. Unlike Docomo, au launched this Firefox phone.

Fx0 is in the final analysis a Japanese customized phone, and au has not launched an official unlock for this phone, that is, before the god's claws on XDA reach it, Fx0 can never use any non au sim card. Furthermore, au operates a CDMA network in Japan, which means that even if this mobile phone can be unlocked in the future, it can only use the phone card of a telecommunications company without human rights to make calls in China.

Anyway, let's get to the point.

When au first launched this mobile phone, the voice of surprise on the Internet was not as much as expected, because au ranked the bottom among the three major operators in Japan for a long time, and in order to achieve curve overtaking, au also actively introduced Machines that the other two major operators despise, Such as LG G Flex, HTC One M7, HTC Butterfly and several Motorola phones. The logo of au has also been changed again and again. A few months ago, au opened a huge flagship store in Shinjuku, Tokyo. In addition, au has a tradition of introducing various "exotic" models. The release of Fx0 does not seem too unexpected in the long history of au's sense of existence.

The first impression of the Fx0 is not so simple: the transparent body design does seem to be interesting, but it also makes the whole phone full of kitsch and cheapness, just like the feeling that Au gave me when he introduced the designer of this phone, Yoshioka Deren - because I have never heard of this person. Now that his name appears, is he really a mobile phone designer?

On the one hand, Fx0 also runs the unpopular Firefox operating system, which is unpopular in Japan at least, and au is also very interested in selling this phone for the first time only in a few retail stores (including the flagship store in Shinjuku, of course).

After entering the retail store and explaining the purpose to the clerk, the clerk immediately opened the conversation box like an electric shock and tried to persuade me not to buy this mobile phone. This mobile phone is just a "conceptual" product. The consequences of buying this mobile phone were at my own risk, BLABLABLA, until I said that "I bought this mobile phone for the purpose of 'development' and other purposes", The clerk then stopped to let me buy quietly.

The packaging of this mobile phone can not be overemphasized by the word "exquisite". LG (or au?) They have a high pursuit of details. The outside of the package is a simple white box, and the gold inner box can be extracted from the white box. Consumers of this phone originally equipped a transparent back cover with dot pattern, and the au also included a completely transparent back cover without pattern. If you want to buy a protective border, au will also provide a thickened gold border, which requires an additional 6588 yen (347 yuan).

Personally, the appearance of this mobile phone is good. The transparent appearance makes the buyer forget that this mobile phone with a price of 500 dollars (3100 yuan) is only at the mid end level: 4.7 inch 720p IPS screen Snapdragon 400 processor, 2370 mAh battery, 16GB built-in storage, 1.5GB RAM, 8 megapixel rear camera and 2.1 megapixel front camera. The memory of the main body can be expanded using the MicroSD card, and the maximum support is 64GB. This is the current "flagship" configuration of Firefox, at least relatively speaking, "flagship".

To be fair, the Firefox mobile phone system is not so bad. The system itself is very clean and has a smell of Android and iOS hybrid. Compared with its competitors, including Windows Phone 8.1, the Firefox system is not mature enough, Fx0 already runs Firefox OS 2.0, and at least it supports copy, paste and cut functions. However, this system is not developed enough after all, and occasionally there are many bugs.

We are familiar with the pull-down notice bar. After the Firefox system pull-down notice bar, all system switches are located at the bottom of the notice bar, including flight mode GPS、 Bluetooth, etc., which makes it much more comfortable to control these buttons than UI such as TouchWiz. Firefox OS also has a traffic counter, which can be seen every time you pull down the notification bar.

The home page is a thick iOS style. The round icons are arranged neatly on the main interface. Long press and drag can reorder them. There is also an unclosed search bar similar to Android on the top of the home page.

Unfortunately, as a new system, Firefox OS still has many problems even after it is updated to version 2.0:

1. Users cannot edit email drafts that are not stored on the device, which is too uncomfortable for Android users.

2. The whole system is too sensitive to touch operation, especially when browsing the web. I touch the screen a little to prevent my phone from sleeping, and then the system thinks I need to take a screenshot.

3. The typing experience is very painful

4. After visiting the Firefox OS app store and looking back at the Windows Phone app store, you will find that the latter is just like a big Wikipedia, and even if there is an app, it is not perfect. Take the application Line (even me). The Line application on Firefox OS can't be more simple. The Firefox version of the software doesn't even provide VoIP calls, timelines, etc, The input prediction function of the phone also makes me have the impulse to smash the phone. In addition, there is no software worth talking about. There are many other things like Very early The "pirated software" in the Android application market, and even these software still widely exist in the Windows Phone and Fire OS application market.

In addition, the Firefox version of Facebook client can't be used at all, because this phone has no return or menu button, so even if you want to return to the previous page, you have to open a small pop-up menu.

Of course, the lack of system keys is not unique to Firefox OS. There are never a few people who complain about the lack of iPhone keys every year, iPhone And WP's solution to this complaint is to add the edge sliding gesture, so many people are used to returning to the previous interface, but Firefox is different. Just like the Facebook client mentioned earlier, I think Firefox still needs to make a good job of this, and don't make it back to this simple operation. It also needs to open a small menu.

At the end, I can't help thinking about a very serious question: who is this mobile phone designed for?

For a mobile phone with a price close to 3100 yuan, people expect it to be worth the money, while the Fx0 phone is far from its price. Android phones with the same configuration, including LG, are much cheaper, and most of the problems with this phone are at the system level.

So there is no doubt that the Fx0 has become a developer's phone. After all, ordinary consumers will not find it difficult to buy it at this price (I signed a two-year contract for this phone). Even for smartphone enthusiasts, this phone app is scarce and has limited functions. Currently, almost nothing sold in Japan is returned, especially electronic products. So basically, If you buy it, it is yours. Of course, if you can find someone who is willing to take over, that's another matter.

To further expand, Firefox does not pose any threat to Android and iOS at present, even Windows Phone and BlackBerry OS. In my opinion, the current system operation of Firefox is not as efficient as the previous system, and Firefox still has a long way to go.

The starting point of Firefox OS is surprisingly good, but the lack of hardware and developer support makes this intelligent system falter. As for the Tizen intelligent system, which is also just starting, it may be easier to develop than Firefox with Samsung's support.
