The best performance NVIDIA Shield Tablet
The best performance NVIDIA Shield Tablet

Android devices have always been good at making a fuss about configuration, but nowadays, the leader of Android performance is not the Snapdragon 805 Exynos 5430, It is not MT6595, but NVIDIA's Tegra K1 (Note 4 of Exynos 5433 has not been released before the deadline). Today we will introduce the Shield Tablet with this chip.

When it comes to Shield, I believe everyone will be impressed. This is the first step for NVIDIA to enter the handheld market. Even if it is equipped with Android system and Tegra 4, its game performance is still good. After Shield, NVIDIA updated its Shield series product line, and the new Shield Tablet was born. It is not a traditional handheld computer, but a combination of tablet and handle.

The outer package of the Shield Tablet can be seen to belong to the NVIDIA style, and the color matching black with fluorescent green is particularly striking.

There are instructions in many languages on the back. It can be seen that the Shield Tablet can only play games with a special handle purchased separately.

The side of the package is marked with the body configuration. What we got is a WiFi version of the Shield Tablet, which uses Tegra K1 2.2GHz quad core processor, 192 core Kepler GPU, an 8-inch 1920 * 1200 resolution screen, 2G Ram+16G Rom (supporting tf card expansion), and front and rear 5 megapixel cameras.

Open the package, you can see that the first layer is the Shield Tablet, and the outside is a transparent protective film.

The second layer of the package is the body accessories, including power adapter, data cable and relevant instructions.

The NVIDIA brand logo is on the power adapter.

The output specification of the adapter is 5.2V 2.1A

The front of the Shield Tablet has an exaggerated speaker design, which is placed on the left and right sides of the body

Loudspeaker adopts dense round hole modeling design

There is a 5 megapixel camera on the top and a light sensor and distance sensor below

The back is covered with matte dark gray, and the bright logo of the middle shield is very bright

A 5 megapixel camera in the rear

The Shield Tablet is different from the general tablet, and it also has a built-in stylus

The tip of the stylus is a bevel

There are power key, volume key and micro SD card slot on the top of the body

Open the cover of the card slot, and you can use our common micro SD card to expand the tablet

There are two grooves at the bottom of the fuselage for installing the original leather sleeve

Speaker on the left side of the fuselage

There is also a speaker on the right side of the fuselage, but the position is not symmetrical with the left side (what about Virgo users...). There are 3.5mm headphone interface, HDMI interface and micro USB interface below

Since the Shield Tablet still has 4G LTE version, a space is reserved on the shell to install the SIM card

The Shield Tablet uses an 8-inch full HD screen, which is also a mainstream configuration

The eight inch fuselage is barely held by one hand

Shield Tablet uses native Android system

In the system settings, a lot of special contents of the Shield Tablet are added to the device bar, such as handle settings, stylus settings, and Shield power control.

The Shield Tablet system is based on Android 4.4.2, and the kernel version is also a relatively new 3.10.33

Compared with ordinary Android tablets, the Shield Tablet also supports the function of automatically hiding the virtual key. After opening it, we can call out the virtual key by drawing on the bottom

The Shield Tablet uses the Tegra K1 quad core version, which is composed of four Cortex-A15 2.2GHz. With the Kepler architecture GPU, its performance can be described as "ferocious". First, let's run a score... The score is the same as we expected, more than 54000 points

Pi test completed the calculation of 10 million bits in only 21 seconds, which is quite amazing

In the RAR compression test, the measured speed also exceeded 1679KB/s, which is also the fastest of the quad core processors we have tested

GPU tests GFXBench. There is no doubt about this. It is totally overwhelming

A1 SD Bench, The Shield Tablet did not perform well in this test. The speed of eMMC and RAM was not ideal

In the test of Modern Warfare 5 (unlocking the 30 frame limit), the average number of frames is about 45. It may be that the game itself is limited to 30 frames, but we broke through the limit by changing files, which is not ideal

Another special feature of the Shield Tablet is that it has a stylus, but this stylus itself has no characteristics, which is not comparable to Samsung's "crazy" 2048 pressure feeling

With a drawing application similar to oil painting

We will introduce more performance tests and game experiences of the Shield Tablet in the subsequent evaluation.
