As the successor of Lumia 920, Nokia Lumia 925 plays a pillar in the empty window between Lumia 920 and Lumia 1020. From official comments, they believe that Lumia 925 is better than Lumia 920 in shooting and has stronger night shooting processing ability. But is that the case?
Note: In this shooting comparison, both phones have been upgraded to the latest system version at that time, and the samples of both phones are based on the "Nokia Professional Photography" application.
day
The left sample was shot by Lumia 920, and the right sample was shot by Lumia 925. The following samples will be arranged in this order. The EXIF information of the sample will also be printed in the lower right corner of the photo. If you are interested, you can click the small picture to view the large picture.
Although the same F2.0 aperture is used and ISO is 100, the shutter speed of Lumia 920 is slightly faster than Lumia 925.
This is the 100% screenshot comparison of the above two samples. You can click the small picture to see the large picture. With the same composition and the same pair of focus metering points, the overall picture brightness of Lumia 920 is better than Lumia 925, but the overall sharpness of Lumia 925 is slightly better, and the processing of the building backlight edge is also better than Lumia 920, Lumia 920 will be a little weak (red circle in the figure).
This is a 100% screenshot of the above picture. The purity of both samples is excellent.

Macro
Both of them have good macro ability, but the focusing ability of Lumia 920 is better than that of Lumia 925 during use. Just like the above scene, Lumia 920 successfully focused on it once and took a clear sample. However, Lumia 925 has failed to focus all the time. In the end, only the manual focus function of Nokia professional photography application can enable Lumia 925 to focus correctly (see, manual focus is excellent).
In terms of color restoration, the color of Lumia 920 is more realistic than that of Lumia 925.
In terms of details, the sharpness of Lumia 925 is slightly better than that of Lumia 920.
Nightscape
For automatic mode shooting, the shutter and ISO are not adjusted, and the EXIF of the two mobile phone samples are actually the same. However, if you click on the large image, you will find that the noise of Lumia 925 is slightly heavier than that of Lumia 920.
This time, the ISO is limited to 100, and the shutter of both is 1/4 second. It is acceptable to hold the shutter.
This time the shutter time is also 1/4 second, but the ISO is very different. Lumia 920 is ISO 1250, while Lumia 925 is 2000. From the sample, Lumia 925's image brightness is indeed higher than Lumia 920's, but high ISO will significantly increase the image noise. Lumia 925's noise is already obvious.
In order to better suppress noise, the editor limits the ISO to 800. The shutter speed of the Lumia 920 is 1/3 second, while that of the Lumia 925 is 1/2 second. The slower the shutter speed of the same aperture and ISO, the brighter the picture. So in this case, the picture of the Lumia 925 will still be brighter than that of the Lumia 920. But the problem is that when the shutter speed reaches 1/2 second, the requirements for ironhands are relatively high, and the film output rate will be relatively low. In addition, I think that the Lumia 920 is bright enough, and the surrounding environment in the actual scene is actually very dark.
In another scene, the shutter time is the same this time, except that the Lumia 920 ISO reaches 1600, while the Lumia 925 ISO is 1250.
However, under such circumstances, Lumia 920 has better sharpness. The noise suppression editor also thinks that Lumia 920 is better.
The next step is a 4-second long exposure, which limits the ISO to 100. A tripod must be used to take this sample. The performance of both phones is very good.
In the 100% screenshot of the above figure, the sharpness of both images is acceptable. Click the image to see the larger image, and look carefully. It can be seen that the noise suppression of Lumia 920 is a little better than that of Lumia 925.
summary
Both of them perform well in the daytime, but the Lumia 920 has better color restoration, while the Lumia 925 has better sharpness and overall picture exposure control than the Lumia 920. In terms of the use experience of touch focusing, the focusing accuracy of the Lumia 920 is better than that of the Lumia 925, especially in the shooting of macro focusing, there will be a big experience gap between the two.
In terms of night view, both of them are excellent. Lumia 925 is slightly weaker than Lumia 920 in terms of noise suppression (although the gap is very small, it can be seen from a closer look). As mentioned above, the focusing accuracy of Lumia 925 is relatively weak, so the night scene may also be out of focus. This requires you to focus more and take more pictures. But when using a tripod and cooperating with Nokia's professional photography application for long-term exposure, both can get very good night view samples!
As a substitute product for Lumia 920, Lumia 925 is not as popular as the official in shooting. Lumia 925's shooting ability has not obviously exceeded that of Lumia 920, and even some performances of Lumia 920 will be better than that of Lumia 925, which is inevitably a bit disappointing. However, other aspects of the Lumia 925, such as the thickness and weight of the fuselage, are obviously superior to the Lumia 920. But if you just want better shooting effect, it seems unnecessary to replace your Lumia 920 with Lumia 925.
