Small upgrade and big difference Android 4.2 experience
Small upgrade and big difference Android 4.2 experience

Android 4.2 was originally scheduled to be released at Google's press conference on October 31, but due to weather reasons, it was released online. Because of Google's hardware "king of three days" on that day Nexus 4 Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 have been launched, so people don't pay much attention to this Android minor upgrade. What's special about Android 4.2, which still has the internal code of Jelly Bean, compared with Android 4.1?

Test model: Nexus 4, system version: Android 4.2

First, look at the desktop launcher. The style is no different from the previous Android 4.1. The biggest change is that the icon is more beautiful than before, and the built-in browser has become Chrome (Chrome cries, "I finally become the main room!"). The overall sliding of the launcher continues the tradition of Android 4.1 and maintains a very high level of smoothness. The system clock plug-in is a place of change, becoming more elegant and beautiful, and the time and minute values also use different fonts.

The style of the clock is the same as that of the lock screen clock. This time, the lock screen has been greatly improved. In addition to the traditional sliding unlocking function, the left and right page switching function is also added.

Swipe to the left and switch to the camera to take a quick picture (secretly taking the Gospel of the Party).

You can add other pages by sliding to the right, but there are only some official plug-ins for the time being. I believe that more options can be added after the system is fully developed in the future.

The drop-down list also changes greatly, including single finger and double finger. After single finger drop-down, an icon appears in the upper right corner. Click once, which is the same as double finger drop-down, and some shortcuts appear.

It is a shortcut for double finger pull-down, but the content is slightly less, and the space of the pull-down column is not fully utilized.

Among them, the brightness adjustment is a favorite of the author. It is similar to the volume adjustment, but it is slightly cumbersome compared with the direct brightness adjustment in the drop-down bar.

The overall style of system settings is the same as Android 4.1.

The Android 4.2 developer option is turned off by default. It will not appear until you click the "version number" in the phone for five consecutive times.

In the developer's option, there is an additional "Force 4X MSAA", which can be used in large games. In the past, this function was only available in some third-party software such as Chainfire3D. We will make a corresponding comparison in the Nexus 4 game test for the specific differences.

The stereoscopic photo mode is added to the photo interface.

HDR option is added, and the menu is more beautiful.

The beautification of pictures is also more varied.

The interface for setting the clock and alarm clock is beautiful, but the alarm clock setting mode is a bit strange.

The compatibility of Android 4.2 was still a big problem when it was first launched, and many software could not be used normally. However, software manufacturers followed up quickly, and Sina Weibo seemed to be the only commonly used software.

Another small problem is that some built-in calendars of Android 4.2 under the English interface are not set in December.

Although the upgrade of Android 4.2 is not very disruptive, the improvement of various functions is very humanized and practical. After using it for a long time, I will feel that the native system is even better than many deeply customized UI.
